Test B: Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge Indicates Hot At All Times

  1. If instrument cluster system operation check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument cluster system operation check has not been performed, perform instrument cluster system operation check. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  2. Disconnect Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor 2-pin harness connector. ECT is located on left side of engine, mounted in thermostat housing. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If ECT gauge goes to COLD position, go to next step. If ECT does not move from HOT position, go to step  4 .
  3. Replace ECT sensor. After repair, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  4. Disconnect instrument cluster 16-pin harness connector C1. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector terminal No. 6 (Yellow/White wire). See Figure . If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 2 ohms or more, go to step  6 .
  5. Repair short to ground in Yellow/White wire between instrument cluster and ECT sensor. After repair, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  6. Inspect printed circuit of instrument cluster for cracks, corrosion or bad connections. If instrument cluster printed circuit is okay, go to next step. If instrument cluster printed circuit is not okay, go to step  8 .
  7. Replace ECT gauge. After repair, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  8. Replace instrument cluster printed circuit. After repair, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
