Test I: Chime Always On

  1. If audible warnings diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If audible warnings diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform audible warnings diagnostic system check. See AUDIBLE WARNINGS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. If no indicators illuminate when chime sounds, go to next step. If any indicator illuminates when chime sounds, diagnose by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position and remove key. Turn headlight switch OFF position. Open driver's side door. If chime sounds, go to next step. If chime does not sound, diagnose intermittent problem. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - CARS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  4. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under instrument panel, right of steering wheel. Using scan tool, perform CHIME TONE TEST in radio. If chime stops sounding when off is selected, go to next step. If chime does not stop sounding when off is selected, go to step  15 .
  5. Using scan tool, observe PARK LIGHT INPUT in BCM LIGHT STATUS data list. If PARK LIGHT INPUT parameter does not display OFF, go to next step. If PARK LIGHT INPUT parameter displays OFF, go to step  7 .
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) 24-pin harness connector C2. Using test light connected to ground, probe BCM harness connector C2 terminal B8 (Brown wire). See Figure . If test light illuminates, go to step  8 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step  14 .
  7. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position and remove key. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) 24-pin harness connector C3. Using test light connected to battery voltage, probe BCM harness connector C3 terminal B12 (Light Green wire). See Figure . If test light illuminates, go to step  9 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step  14 .
  8. Measure voltage between ground and BCM harness connector C2 terminal B8 (Brown wire). See Figure . If battery voltage does not exist, go to step  10 . If battery voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Brown wire between BCM and headlight switch. After repair, go to step  16 .
  9. Disconnect ignition switch 6-pin harness connector C1. Measure resistance between ground and BCM harness connector terminal B12 (Light Green wire). See Figure . If resistance is 2 ohms or more, go to step  11 . If resistance is less than 2 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Green wire between BCM and ignition switch. After repair, go to step  16 .
  10. Check headlight switch harness connector for poor connections or loose terminals. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - CARS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If problem still exists, go to step  12 . If problem does not exist, go to step  16 .
  11. Check ignition key alarm switch harness connector for poor connections or loose terminals. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - CARS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If problem still exists, go to step  13 . If problem does not exist, go to step  16 .
  12. Replace headlight switch. After repair, go to step  16 .
  13. Replace ignition switch. After repair, go to step  16 .
  14. NOTE: New BCM needs to be programmed. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  15. Replace BCM. After repair, go to step  16 .
  16. NOTE: Perform set up procedure for replacement radio. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  17. Replace radio. After repair, go to next step.
  18. Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Operate vehicle to verify repair. If problem does not exist, system is okay. If problem still exists, go to step  3 .
