DTC B2965: Key-In-Ignition Fault: Testing
- If audible warnings diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If audible warnings diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform audible warnings diagnostic system check. See AUDIBLE WARNINGS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe KEY-IN-IGNITION parameter in Body Control Module (BCM) Data list. If scan tool displays YES, go to next step. If scan tool displays NO, go to step 4 .
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position and remove key. Disconnect BCM 16-pin harness connector C1. BCM is located under right side of instrument panel. Using test light connected to ground, probe BCM harness connector terminal A8 (Purple wire). See Fig 1 . If test light illuminates, go to step 6 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step 8 .
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect BCM 24-pin harness connector C2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and BCM harness connector C2 terminal B12 (Light Green wire). See Fig 1 . Voltage should not exist. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Ensure key is in ignition switch. Measure resistance between ground BCM harness connector C2 terminal B12 (Light Green wire). Resistance should be less than 2 ohms. Disconnect ignition switch 6-pin harness connector C1. Measure resistance in Light Green wire between BCM harness connector terminal B12 and ignition switch harness connector C1 terminal "D". Resistance should be less than 2 ohms. If resistance and voltage are as specified, go to next step. If resistance or voltage is not as specified, repair open, high resistance or short to voltage between BCM and ignition switch. After repair, go to step 11 .
- Disconnect ignition switch 6-pin harness connector C2. Measure resistance between ground and ignition switch harness connector C2 terminal "E" (Black/White wire). If resistance is less than 2 ohms. go to step 7 . If resistance is 2 ohms or more, repair open in Black/White wire between ignition switch and ground. Ground point is located on left side of instrument panel near junction block. After repair, go to step 11 .
- Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position and key is removed. Measure voltage between ground and BCM harness connector C1 terminal A8 (Purple wire). If voltage does not exist, go to next step. If any voltage exists, repair short to voltage between BCM and left instrument panel junction block. After repair, go to step 11 .
- Inspect harness connector of ignition switch for poor connections or loose terminals. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - CARS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If problem still exists, go to step 9 . If problem does not exist, go to step 11 .
- Inspect harness connector of BCM for poor connections or loose terminals. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - CARS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If problem still exists, go to step 10 . If problem does not exist, go to step 11 .
- Replace ignition switch. After repair, go to step 11 .
- Replace BCM. After repair, go to next step.
- Using scan tool clear all DTCs. Operate vehicle within code enabling criteria. If DTC does not reset, system is okay. If DTC resets, go to step 2 .
NOTE:
New BCM needs to be programmed. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article
