Test G: Defrosting Insufficient

- Start engine. Select DEFROST mode. Select maximum blower speed. If sufficient air flows from defroster outlets, go to next step. If sufficient air does not flow from defroster outlets, go to step 10.
- Measure engine operating temperature. If engine reaches a normal operating temperature, go to next step. If engine does not reach a normal operating temperature, go to step 4.
- Select minimum blower speed. Select maximum temperature setting. Feel the temperature of the inlet and outlet hoses at heater core. If the inlet hose feel warmer than the outlet hose, go to step 5. If the inlet hose does not feel warmer than the outlet hose, go to step 12.
- Repair the low engine temperature concern. If repair is complete, go to step 14.
- If the vehicle is equipped with A/C, go to next step. If the vehicle is not equipped with A/C, go to step 14.
- Check operation of the A/C compressor clutch. If compressor clutch engages, go to step 8. If compressor clutch does not engage, go to next step.
- Repair A/C compressor clutch. See TEST F: COMPRESSOR CLUTCH DOES NOT ENGAGE . If repair is complete, go to step 14.
- Perform A/C system performance test. Go to A/C SYSTEM PERFORMANCE under PERFORMANCE TESTS. If A/C system is operating within specification, go to next step. If A/C system is not operating within specification, go to step 11.
- Check for correct operation of recirculation door. If recirculation door is operating correctly, go to step 14. If recirculation door is not operating correctly, go to step 13.
- Repair the air delivery concern. See TEST A: AIR DELIVERY IMPROPER . If repair is complete, go to step 14.
- Repair the A/C performance concern. See A/C SYSTEM PERFORMANCE TEST under PERFORMANCE TESTS. If the repair is complete, go to step 14.
- Repair the heating concern. See HEATING PERFORMANCE DIAGNOSTIC under PERFORMANCE TESTS. If repair is complete, go to step 14.
- Repair the recirculation door concern. See VACUUM ACTUATORS & ACTUATOR DOORS under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If repair is complete, go to next step.
- Operate the system to verify repair. If the system operates correctly, system is okay. If the system does not operate correctly, go to step 1.
