Test B: Blower Motor Always On
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Sunfire and 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Definition: The blower motor is on while the blower motor switch is in the OFF position.
- Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Place mode switch in OFF position. If blower motor is off, problem is intermittent. Check wiring harness and connectors for damage or defects and poor connections. If blower motor is not off, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Remove blower motor relay from underhood fuse block. See Fig 1. Turn ignition on, with engine off. If blower motor is off, go to next step. If blower motor is not off, go to step 8.
- With mode switch in the OFF position, probe blower motor relay voltage supply circuit with a test light connected to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If test light illuminates go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 6.
- Check blower motor relay voltage supply circuit for a short to voltage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If a short to voltage was found, repair as necessary and go to step 11. If a short to voltage was not found, go to step 7.
- Check harness connector at blower motor relay for a poor connection. See Fig 1. If a poor connection was found, repair as necessary and go to step 11. If a poor connection was not found, go to step 9.
- Check harness connector at HVAC control assembly for a poor connection. If a poor connection was found, repair as necessary and go to step 11. If a poor connection was not found, go to step 10.
- Repair the short to voltage in blower motor voltage supply circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If the repair is complete, go to step 11.
- Replace blower motor relay. See Fig 1. After repairs are complete, go to step 11.
- Replace HVAC control assembly. See HVAC CONTROL ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step 11.
- Operate system to verify repair. If symptom has been corrected, system is okay. If symptom has not been corrected, go to step 2.
