Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Sunfire and 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Release the drive belt tensioner.
  3. Remove the drive belt from the A/C compressor.
  4. Raise the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE .
  5. Remove the right front fender liner. Refer to FRONT FENDER LINER REPLACEMENT in Body Front End.
  6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor.

  7. Remove the compressor hose assembly bolt from the compressor.

  8. Remove the compressor hose assembly from the compressor.
  9. Remove and discard the sealing washers.
  10. Remove the compressor mounting bolts.

  11. Remove the compressor.
    12. NOTE: NEW CVC compressor assemblies are shipped with a full poly-alkylene glycol (PAG) refrigerant oil charge. Use of the incorrect PAG oil can result in compressor failure.
  12. If replacing the compressor, refer to Compressor Oil Balancing .
