Test H: Chime Inoperative

  1. If audible warning system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If audible warning system diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to AUDIBLE WARNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Place key in ignition. Open driver door. If chime sounds, go to next step. If chime does not chime, go to step  4.
  3. If courtesy lights illuminate when driver door is opened, wiggle related wiring and connectors. This can often cause malfunction to appear. If courtesy lights do not illuminate when driver door is opened, repair courtesy light concern. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  4. Turn radio on. Adjust radio balance and fade to left front speaker. If radio operates properly, go to next step. If radio does not operate properly, repair radio and/or speakers as necessary.
  5. Replace radio. After repairs, go to next step.
  6. Check system for proper operation. If system operates properly, test is complete. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2.
