Audible Warning System Diagnostic System Check

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located on lower left side of instrument panel, near steering column. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - CAVALIER & SUNFIRE article. For 2002, go to TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - CAVALIER & SUNFIRE article.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Attempt to establish communication with Body Control Module (BCM) and Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). If scan tool communicates with BCM and IPC, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with BCM and IPC, go to TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - CAVALIER & SUNFIRE article. For 2002, go to TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - CAVALIER & SUNFIRE article.
  3. Select DISPLAY DTCs function for BCM and IPC on scan tool. If any DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If no DTCs are retrieved, diagnose and repair warning system by symptom. For 2001, see WARNING SYSTEMS article. For 2002, see WARNING SYSTEMS article.
  4. If any communication DTCs (DTCs beginning with a "U") are retrieved, go to TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - CAVALIER & SUNFIRE article. For 2002, go to TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH C under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - CAVALIER & SUNFIRE article. If any other DTCs are retrieved, perform appropriate test.
