Test G: Chime Always On

  1. If audible warning system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If audible warning system diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to AUDIBLE WARNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. If no indicators illuminate when chime sounds, go to next step. If any indicators illuminate when chime sounds, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove key from ignition. Turn headlight switch off. Open driver door. If chime sounds, go to next step. If chime does not sound, repeat test while wiggling related wiring and connectors. This can often cause malfunction to appear.
  4. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) 16-pin Purple harness connector C1. BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If chime does not sound, go to next step. If chime sounds, go to step  16.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Reconnect BCM harness connector C1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located at lower left side of instrument panel, near steering column. Using scan tool, observe PARK LAMP INPUT in BCM LAMP STATUS data list. If PARK LAMP INPUT parameter displays OFF, go to next step. If PARK LAMP INPUT parameter does not display OFF, go to step  7.
  6. Close driver door. Using scan tool, observe DRIVER DOOR AJAR SWITCH parameter in BCM data list. If parameter displays OFF, go to step  8. If parameter does not display OFF, repair courtesy light concern. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  7. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect BCM 24-pin Light Blue harness connector C2. Connect a test light between ground and BCM harness connector C2 terminal A1 (Brown wire). See Figure. If test light illuminates, go to step  9. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  15.
  8. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove key from ignition. Disconnect BCM 24-pin Brown harness connector C3. Connect a test light between battery positive terminal and BCM harness connector C3 terminal B12 (Light Green wire). See Figure. If test light illuminates, go to step  10. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  15.
  9. Check for short to voltage in Brown wire between BCM harness connector C2 terminal A1 and park brake switch. If problem is not found, go to step  11. If problem is found, repair Brown wire. After repairs, go to step  17.
  10. Check for short to ground in Light Green wire between BCM harness connector C3 terminal B12 and ignition switch. If problem is not found, go to step  12. If problem is found, repair Light Green wire. After repairs, go to step  17.
  11. Check for poor connections at headlight switch harness connector. If problem is not found, go to step  13. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  17.
  12. Check for poor connections at ignition key alarm switch harness connector. If problem is not found, go to step  14. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  17.
  13. Replace headlight switch. After repairs, go to step  17.
  14. Replace ignition switch. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. For 2002, see STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. After repairs, go to step  17.
  15. Replace and program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. See BODY CONTROL MODULE PROGRAMMING/REGULAR PRODUCTION OPTION CONFIGURATION  under PROGRAMMING.
  16. Replace radio. After repairs, go to step  17.
  17. Check system for proper operation. If system operates properly, test is complete. If system does not operate properly, go to step  3.
