Horns Inoperative

  1. If system check was performed, go to next step. If system check was not performed, go to HORN SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  2. Remove HORN (20-amp) fuse located in underhood electrical center. Using a test light connected to ground, check for power at horn fuse terminal "B" of underhood electrical center. Depress horn switch. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, go to step  10 .
  3. Remove horn relay. Connect a DVOM between ground and horn relay connector Black wire terminal of underhood electrical center. Measure resistance with horn switch depressed. If resistance is 0-2 ohms, go to step  6 . If resistance is greater than 2 ohms, go to next step.
  4. Remove inflator module from steering wheel. Disconnect horn brush slip sing connector from inside steering wheel. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between horn brush slip ring connector terminal and horn relay connector Black wire terminal of underhood electrical center. If resistance is 0-2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 2 ohms, go to step  7
  5. Disconnect horn ground strap pigtail terminal in steering wheel. Using DVOM, check resistance between ground and horn ground strap pigtail terminal. If resistance is about 0-2 ohms, go to step  9 . If resistance is greater than 2 ohms, go to step  8 .
  6. Replace horn relay. Go to HORN SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  7. Disconnect splice pack No. 100 terminal "A" (Black wire). Splice pack No. 100 is located at forward lamp harness. Check resistance between horn harness connector terminal "A" (Black wire) and splice pack No. 100 harness connector terminal "A" (Black wire). If resistance is about zero ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not about zero ohms, go to step  17 .
  8. Repair open or shorted condition in Black wire circuit between Body Control Module (BCM) connector C1 terminal B10 and horn relay. Go to HORN SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  9. Replace horn switch. Go to HORN SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  10. Inspect HORN (20-amp) fuse located in underhood electrical center. If fuse is open, go to step  13 . If fuse is okay, go to next step.
  11. Disconnect horn connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Dark Green wire between horn connector and horn fuse cavity. If resistance is 0-2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 2 ohms, go to step  14 .
  12. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and Black wire terminal of horn electrical connector. If resistance is 0-2 ohms, go to step  16 . If resistance is greater than 2 ohms, go to step  15 .
  13. Disconnect horn electrical connector. Check for continuity to ground in Dark Green wire terminal of horn electrical connector. If continuity exists, go to step  17 . If continuity does not exist, go to step  16 .
  14. Repair open or shorted condition in Dark Green wire between horn and horn fuse cavity. Go to HORN SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  15. Repair open in Black wire between horn connector and ground. Go to HORN SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  16. Replace horn. Go to HORN SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  17. Repair open or shorted condition in Black wire between BCM and horn relay. Go to HORN SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
