Conditions For Clearing The DTC

- The DTC will become history if the PCM no longer detects a failure.
- The history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles have occurred without a malfunction.
- The DTC can be cleared with a scan tool.
- If diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check was not performed, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Ensure ambient air temperature is above 38°F (3°C). Check compressor clutch for free rotation. Start engine. Place HVAC control in the OFF position. If compressor operates, go to TEST G: COMPRESSOR CLUTCH DOES NOT DISENGAGE under SYMPTOM TESTS. If compressor does not operate, go to next step.
- Connect scan tool to DLC. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter in PCM ENGINE DATA 2 list. If scan tool indicates HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter is 0.09-4.90 volts, problem is intermittent. Check wiring and connectors for damage, defects and poor connections. If scan tool indicates HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter is not 0.09-4.90 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch Off. Disconnect A/C refrigerant pressure sensor. Turn ignition On, with engine off. Using scan tool, observe A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter. If scan tool indicates HIGH SIDE PRESSURE is less than 0.09 volts, go to next step. If scan tool indicates HIGH SIDE PRESSURE is more than 0.09 volts, go to step 11.
- Turn ignition switch Off. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between 5-volt reference circuit terminal (Light Blue/Black wire on 3.8L or Gray wire on 5.7L models) and sensor signal circuit terminal (Red/Black wire on all models) at refrigerant pressure sensor connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Turn ignition On, with engine off. Using scan tool, observe A/C HIGH SIDE PRESSURE parameter. If scan tool indicates HIGH SIDE PRESSURE is more than 4.90 volts, go to next step. If HIGH SIDE PRESSURE is less than 4.90 volts, go to step 9.
- Remove 3-amp jumper wire. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between 5-volt reference circuit terminal (Light Blue/Black wire on 3.8L or Gray wire on 5.7L models) and low reference circuit terminal (Gray wire on 3.8L or Purple wire on 5.7L models) at refrigerant pressure sensor connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage is less than 5.1 volts, go to next step. If voltage is more than 5.1 volts, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition switch Off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between low reference circuit terminal (Gray wire on 3.8L or Purple wire on 5.7L models) of refrigerant pressure sensor connector and a good ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 13. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to step 12.
- Check 5 volt reference circuit of pressure sensor (Light Blue/Black wire on 3.8L or Gray wire on 5.7L models) for a short to voltage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If a short to voltage was found, repair as necessary and go to step 17. If a short to voltage was not found, go to step 14.
- Check 5 volt reference circuit of pressure sensor (Light Blue/Black wire on 3.8L or Gray wire on 5.7L models) for a short to ground, an open or high resistance. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If a short to ground, an open or high resistance was found, repair as necessary and go to step 17. If a short to ground, an open or high resistance was not found, go to next step.
- Check pressure sensor signal circuit (Red/Black wire on all models) for a short to ground, an open or high resistance. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If a short to ground, an open or high resistance was found, repair as necessary and go to step 17. If a short to ground, an open or high resistance was not found, go to step 14.
- Check pressure sensor signal circuit (Red/Black wire on all models) for a short to voltage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If a short to voltage was found, repair as necessary and go to step 17. If a short to voltage was not found, go to step 14.
- Check pressure sensor low reference circuit (Gray wire on 3.8L or Purple wire on 5.7L models) for high resistance and an open. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If high resistance or an open was found, repair as necessary and go to step 17. If high resistance or an open was not found, go to step 14.
- Check pressure sensor harness connector for a poor connection. If a poor connection was found, repair as necessary and go to step 17. If a poor connection was not found, go to step 15.
- Check PCM harness connector for poor connections. If a poor connection was found, repair as necessary and go to step 17. If a poor connection was not found, go to step 16.
- Replace A/C refrigerant pressure sensor. See REFRIGERANT PRESSURE SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step 17.
- Replace PCM and recalibrate. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION - CAMARO & FIREBIRD article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If replacement is complete, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, clear DTC. Start engine and operate system to verify DTC does not reset. If DTC resets, go to step 2. If DTC does not reset, system is okay.
