Test O: Chime Always On: Testing

  1. If audible warning diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If audible warning diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform audible warning diagnostic system check. See AUDIBLE WARNING DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn headlights off. Turn ignition off. Remove key from ignition switch. Close all doors. If chime is sounding, go to next step. If chime is not sounding, diagnose intermittent condition. See DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  .
  3. If any indicators are illuminate when chime sounds, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table. If no indicators are illuminated when chime sounds, go to next step.
  4. Install a scan tool. Observe KEY-IN-IGNITION parameter in BCM INPUT DATA LIST. Insert and then remove key from ignition switch. If parameter changes states on scan tool, go to step  8 . If parameter does not change states on scan tool, go to next step.
  5. Test key-in-ignition signal circuit (Light Green wire) for a short to ground between ignition alarm switch and BCM harness connector C2 terminal B9. See Figure and Figure . If problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 . If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  6. Inspect for poor connections at harness connector at ignition key alarm switch. If problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 . If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  7. Replace ignition switch. See IGNITION & KEY ALARM SWITCH ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After replacement is complete, go to step  9 .
  8. Replace Body Control Module (BCM). After installation is completed, perform set up procedure on Body Control Module. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to next step.
  9. Connect all disconnected components. Check system for proper operation. If system operates properly, test is complete. If system does not operate properly, go to step  3 .
