Test J: Driver Information Center Temperature Display Always Reads "OC": Notes

NOTE: Outside ambient air temperature sensor is also referred to as ambient air temperature sensor.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ambient air temperature sensor 2-pin connector. Connect Signal Generator and Instrument Panel Tester (J-3341-C) between signal circuit (Light Green/Black wire) and ground circuit (Black wire) of ambient temperature sensor harness connector. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Vary resistance on tester from 2500-11200 ohms. Disconnect one of testers leads momentarily between resistance settings in order to quickly update Driver Information Center (DIC) display. For resistance and display values, see AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. If display indicates correct temperature, go to step  4 . If display does not indicate correct temperature, go to next step.
  2. Test signal circuit of ambient temperature sensor for an open. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If continuity exist, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open circuit as necessary. Go to step  8 .
  3. Test ground circuit of the ambient temperature sensor for an open. If continuity problem does not exist, go to step  5 . If problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  8 .
  4. Inspect for poor connections at harness connector of the ambient temperature sensor. If problem exists, repair connection as necessary. After repair, go to step  8 . If problem does not exist, go to step  6 .
  5. Inspect for poor connections at harness connector of DIC. If problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  8 . If problem does not exist, go to step  7 .
  6. Replace ambient air temperature sensor. See AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  7. Replace DIC display module. See DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER DISPLAY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  8. Connect all disconnected components. Check system for proper operation. If system operates properly, test is complete. If system does not operate properly, go to step  1 .
