DTC P0608: Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal Malfunction: Testing
- If Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If IPC system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform IPC system diagnostic system check. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Install a scan tool. Raise vehicle's drive wheels. Start engine. Place transmission into Drive for an automatic transmission or 3rd gear for a manual transmission. Using scan tool, observe VEHICLE SPEED parameter in PCM data list. If scan tool display does not match speedometer display, go to next step. If scan tool display matches speedometer display, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM Red harness connector C2. Install Signal Generator and Instrument Panel Tester (J-33431-C) lead to vehicle speed signal circuit at PCM Red harness connector C2 terminal No. 50. (Dark Green/White wire) and other lead to a good ground. See Figure . Turn ignition on, with engine off. Set tester to generate a speedometer signal. If approximately 55 MPH is not displayed on speedometer, go to next step. If approximately 55 MPH is displayed on speedometer, go to step 5 .
- Test Dark Green/White wire between IPC harness connector terminal B3 and PCM (Red) harness connector C2 terminal No. 50 for open, short to voltage or short to ground. See Figure and Figure . If no problem was found, go to step 6 . If problem is found, repair as necessary, go to step 9 .
- Inspect for poor connections at PCM Red harness connector C2. If no problem was found, go to step 7 . If problem is found, repair as necessary, go to step 9 .
- Inspect for poor connections at IPC harness connector. If no problem was found go to step 8 . If problem is found, repair as necessary, go to step 9 .
- Replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform set up procedure on PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE/ PROGRAMMING ON BOARD and POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE/ PROGRAMMING OFF BOARD under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to step 9 .
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step 9 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Reconnect any disconnected components and harness connectors. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within code enable criteria conditions. Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. If DTC resets as current, go to step 2 . If DTC does not reset as current, system is okay.
