Test M: Low Engine Oil Level Indicator Inoperative

  1. If vehicle has been checked for DTCs, go to next step. If vehicle has not been checked for DTCs, check for DTCs. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  2. If fuel gauge operates, go to next step. If fuel gauge does not operate, diagnose fuel gauge concern. See TEST B: FUEL GAUGE INOPERATIVE/INACCURATE  .
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect PCM 80-pin harness connector C2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a fused jumper wire (3-amp), connect between ground and PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 6 (Brown/White wire). If oil level indicator illuminates, go to next step. If engine oil level indicator does not illuminate, go to step  5 .
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Replace PCM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Reprogram PCM. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION. After repairs, perform instrument cluster system check. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  5. Disconnect instrument cluster 32-pin harness connector. Measure resistance in Brown/White wire between instrument cluster harness connector terminal D15 and PCM harness connector terminal No. 6. If resistance is 2 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to step  7 .
  6. Repair open in Brown/White wire between instrument cluster and PCM. After repairs, perform instrument cluster system check. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  7. Inspect engine oil level warning indicator and connection. If indicator and connection are okay, replace instrument cluster. After repairs, perform instrument cluster system check. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SYSTEM CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
