Test B: Fuel Gauge Inoperative/Inaccurate
- If vehicle has been checked for DTCs, go to next step. If vehicle has not been checked for DTCs, check for DTCs. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Disconnect PCM 80-pin harness connector C1. PCM is located in right front corner of engine compartment. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If fuel gauge indicates full, go to next step. If fuel gauge does not indicate full, go to step 4
.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Using a fused jumper wire (3-amp), ground terminal No. 3 (Orange wire) at PCM harness connector C1. See Fig 1
. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If fuel gauge does not indicate empty, go to next step. If fuel gauge indicates empty, go to step 7
.
- Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster 32-pin harness connector. Check continuity of Orange wire between PCM harness connector C1 terminal No. 3 and instrument cluster harness connector terminal C14. See Figure
and Fig 1
. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, go to step 6
.
- Repair open in Orange wire between PCM and instrument cluster. Recheck system operation. If concern still exists, go to next step.
- Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
- Replace PCM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Reprogram PCM. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION. Recheck system operation.
