Test 2: Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge Inaccurate/Inoperative
- If instrument cluster diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument cluster diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform instrument cluster diagnostic system check. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) parameter in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) ENGINE DATA 1 data display. If temperature displayed on scan tool is not equal to actual engine coolant temperature, go to next step. If temperature displayed on scan tool is equal to actual engine coolant temperature, perform powertrain on-board diagnostic system check. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Replace instrument cluster. After repairs, go to next step.
- Connect all disconnect components. Check system for proper operation. If system operates properly, test is complete. If system does not operate properly, go to step 2 .
