Test 8: Volt Gauge Inaccurate/Inoperative

  1. If diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Verify system operation. If fault still exists, go to next step. If fault does not still exist, check for poor connections and intermittent conditions.
  3. Turn ignition on. Remove connector combs from back of instrument cluster connector. Leave instrument cluster connector connected. Using a voltmeter connected to ground, backprobe terminal A8 (Pink wire) at instrument cluster connector. See Figure . Compare voltmeter reading with instrument cluster volt gauge. If voltmeter reading agrees (approximately) with instrument cluster volt gauge, check for poor connections and intermittent conditions. If voltmeter reading does not agree with volt gauge, go to next step.
  4. Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  5. Connect all disconnected components. Check system for proper operation. If system operates properly, test is complete. If system does not operate properly, go to step  3 .
