Instrument Panel Cluster Diagnostic System Check

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, repair scan tool or DLC connector concern. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - ASTRO & SAFARI article.
  2. Turn ignition on. Following scan tool manufacturer's instructions, attempt to establish communication with Body Control Module (BCM), Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), Vehicle Control Module (VCM), Automatic Transfer Case (ATC), Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) and inflatable restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM). If communication with all modules is established, go to next step. If communication with any module is not established, a communication problem exists with class 2 device. Repair communications concern. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - ASTRO & SAFARI article.
  3. Select display DTC function for BCM, IPC, VCM, ATC, EBCM and inflatable restraint SDM. Record any DTCs that are displayed and module that set the DTC. If any DTCs are displayed, go to next step. If no DTCs are displayed, perform appropriate test under SYSTEM TESTS  .
  4. If scan tool displays DTC B1397, B1398 or B1480, preform appropriate diagnostic test. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - ASTRO & SAFARI article. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", repair communications concern. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - ASTRO & SAFARI article. If any DTCs exist that begin with "P", see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If DTC B1367 is retrieved from IPC, go to DTC B1367: IPC IGNITION 0 CIRCUIT LOW  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
