Test 1: Instrument Cluster Inoperative
- If instrument cluster diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument cluster diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform instrument cluster diagnostic system check. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Verify system operation. If fault still exists, go to next step. If fault does not still exist, check for poor connections and intermittent conditions.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster connector and remove connector combs. Turn ignition on. Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe terminal A8 (Pink wire) at instrument cluster connector. See Figure . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 8 .
- Turn ignition off. Using a test light connected to positive battery voltage, backprobe terminal B4 (Black wire) at instrument cluster connector. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 7 .
- Turn ignition on. Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe terminal B10 (Brown wire) at instrument cluster connector. If test light illuminates, go to step 9 . If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Repair open or short to ground in Brown wire between instrument cluster and instrument panel fuse block. After repairs, go to step 11 .
- Repair open in Black wire between instrument cluster and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repairs, go to step 11 .
- Repair open or short to ground in Pink wire between instrument cluster and instrument panel fuse block. After repairs, go to step 11 .
- Check for an open or short to ground in Orange wire between RADIO BATT fuse in instrument panel fuse block and terminal B9 at instrument cluster connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If problem exists, repair as necessary and go to step 11 . If problem does not exist, go to next step.
- Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step 11 .
- Connect all disconnected components. Check system for proper operation. If system operates properly, test is complete. If system does not operate properly, go to step 3 .
