Oil Level Indicator Is Off When Oil Level Is Low

If vehicle has been checked for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), go to next step. If vehicle has not been checked for DTCs, go to appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
If fuel gauge works properly, go to next step. If fuel gauge does not work properly, go to ALL GAUGES & INDICATORS (EXCEPT TURN SIGNALS, HIGH BEAM & SEAT BELT INDICATOR) INOPERATIVE test.
Disconnect engine oil level indicator switch connector. Start engine. If low oil level indicator illuminates, go to next step. If low oil level indicator does not illuminate, go to step 5 .
Replace engine oil level indicator switch. Recheck system operation.
Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Clear 80-pin connector C2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between PCM harness connector C2, terminal No. 6 (Brown/White wire) and ground. If low oil level indicator illuminates, go to next step. If low oil level indicator does not illuminate, go to step 8 .
Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Check for short to ground in circuit No. 1174 (Brown wire) between PCM connector C2 and engine oil level indicator switch. Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
Replace PCM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Recheck system operation.
Check for poor connection or open in circuit No. 1173 (Brown/White wire) between PCM connector C2, underhood accessory wiring junction block and instrument cluster Natural 18-pin connector C1. Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
Repair or replace instrument cluster as necessary. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
