Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If SERVICE ENGINE SOON warning indicator illuminates, go to next step. If SERVICE ENGINE SOON warning indicator does not illuminate, refer to procedures in ALL GAUGES & INDICATORS (EXCEPT TURN SIGNALS, HIGH BEAM & SEAT BELT INDICATOR) INOPERATIVE. 
  2. Check for short to battery in circuit No. 33 (Tan/White wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  3. Check for poor connection or open in circuit No. 33 (Tan/White wire) between instrument cluster Black 32-pin harness connector terminal C7 and splice S207 (located in instrument panel harness under left side of instrument panel, about 2" from hazard light/turn signal flasher breakout). Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  4. Check BRAKE warning indicator bulb and bulb connection. Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If bulb and bulb connection are okay, replace instrument cluster. See procedures in INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
