Oil Pressure Warning Indicator Is Off When Ignition Is In Run (Engine Not Running)

  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator illuminates, go to next step. If SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator does not illuminate, go to ALL GAUGES & INDICATORS (EXCEPT TURN SIGNALS, HIGH BEAM & SEAT BELT INDICATOR) INOPERATIVE. 
  2. Disconnect engine oil pressure indicator switch connector. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between engine oil pressure indicator switch connector terminal "A" (Tan wire) and ground. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If oil pressure warning indicator illuminates, go to next step. If oil pressure warning indicator does not illuminate, go to step 4).
  3. Check for poor connection at engine oil pressure indicator switch connector. Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If connection is okay, replace engine oil pressure indicator switch. Recheck system operation.
  4. Check for poor connection or open in circuit No. 31 (Tan wire) between instrument cluster and engine oil pressure indicator switch. Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  5. Check oil pressure warning indicator bulb and bulb connection. Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If bulb and bulb connection are okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
