Low Oil Level Indicator Is On When Oil Level Is Okay
- If vehicle has been checked for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), go to next step. If vehicle has not been checked for DTCs, see appropriate TESTS W/CODES
article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE section:
- TESTS W/CODES - 3.1L
- TESTS W/CODES - 3.8L
- If fuel gauge works properly, go to next step. If fuel gauge does not work properly, go to ALL GAUGES & INDICATORS (EXCEPT TURN SIGNALS, HIGH BEAM & SEAT BELT INDICATOR) INOPERATIVE.
- Disconnect engine oil level indicator sensor connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between engine oil level indicator sensor harness connector terminal "A" (Brown wire) and ground. If low oil level indicator illuminates, go to next step. If low oil level indicator does not illuminate, go to step 7).
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Clear 80-pin connector C2. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If low oil level indicator illuminates, go to next step. If low oil level indicator does not illuminate, go to step 6).
- Check for short to ground in circuit No. 1173 (Brown/White wire) between PCM connector C2 and instrument cluster. Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuit is okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation.
- Check for poor connection or open in circuit No. 1174 (Brown wire) between PCM connector C2 and engine oil level indicator sensor. Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If circuit is okay, replace PCM. see appropriate TESTS W/CODES

Recheck system operation.
- Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between engine oil level indicator sensor harness connector terminals "A" (Brown wire) and "B" (Black/White wire). If low oil level indicator illuminates, go to next step. If low oil level indicator does not illuminate, go to step 9).
- Check for poor connection at engine oil level indicator sensor connector. Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If connection is okay, replace engine oil level indicator sensor. Recheck system operation.
- Repair poor connection or open in circuit No. 451 (Black/White wire) between engine oil level indicator sensor and ground. Recheck system operation.
