Tachometer Does Not Operate Properly
- Check for moisture in firewall harness connector, located above battery and below cruise control servo unit. Repair as needed.
- Turn ignition on, engine off. Disconnect Gray 2-pin connector at opti-spark ignition coil. Connect Signal Generator/Instrument Panel Tester (J-33431-B) into 110V wall outlet. Connect Harness (J-33431-10) from instrument panel tester to White wire of Gray 2-pin opti-spark ignition coil connector and ground.
- Set tester controls to ON position and to 54 MPH. If tachometer indicates about 900 RPM, problem is faulty opti-spark ignition coil. If tachometer does not indicate about 900 RPM, check for open, short to ground or short to battery voltage in White wire between tachometer and opti-spark ignition coil.
- Also check for open or short to ground to tachometer filter. If White wire and tachometer filter are okay, replace instrument cluster.
