Installation Procedure

    Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant

  2. Clean the engine block sealing surface and ensure the bolt threads are free of RTV and debris prior to RTV bead application.
  3. Clean the lower crankcase extension housing and ensure the housing is free of oils and finger prints prior to RTV bead application.
  4. NOTE:

    DO NOT allow the RTV to skim over, the crankcase extension housing must be installed within 8 minutes of RTV being applied.

  5. Apply a 4 mm bead of sealant (1) to the crankshaft rear oil seal housing.
  6. Apply 6 mm bead of sealant to the locations indicated, dimension a.

    Oil Pan High Pressure Port Seal (2) - Install NEW

  8. Lower Crankcase Extension (1) - Install

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution

    Lower Crankcase Extension Bolt (1) - Install and tighten in sequence - Fastener Specifications

  10. Lower Crankcase Extension Bolt (2) - Install and tighten in sequence - Fastener Specifications
  11. Lower Crankcase Extension Bolt (3) - Install and tighten in sequence - Fastener Specifications
  12. Lower Crankcase Extension Bolt (4) - Install and tighten in sequence [8x] - Fastener Specifications
  13. Lower Crankcase Extension Bolt (5) - Install and tighten in sequence [3x] - Fastener Specifications

    Engine Oil Cooler Seal (4) - Install NEW [2x]

  15. Oil Filter Adapter (3) - Install
  16. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution

  17. Oil Filter Adapter Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
  18. Oil Filter Adapter Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Engine Oil Temperature Sensor (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

  20. Electrical Connector (1) - Connect

    NOTE:

    Balancer shaft driven sprocket is keyed to fit one way on the balancer driven shaft.

    Install the balancer chain and balancer shaft driven sprocket to the balancer driven shaft.

    1. Ensure the marks on the balancer driven shaft (2) face each other.
    2. Align the double yellow links (4) on the balancer shaft chain to the double timing marks on the balancer shaft driven sprocket (3).
    3. Align the pink link (1) to the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket (5).

    Balancer Shaft Sprocket Bolt (1) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Balancer Chain Guide (3) - Install

  24. Timing Chain Guide Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    If the balancer chain tensioner (1) needs to be assembled, install the check ball spring (2), plunger orifice (3), main spring (4) and the plunger (5). then install the EN-955-10-A  Locking Pin to reset the tensioner.

    Balancer Chain Tensioner (2) - Install

    NOTE:

    Ensure that the sealing surface is clear of oil, grease and old sealant material.

    NOTE:

    Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant

    NOTE:

    The rear oil seal housing must be installed within 8 minutes of applying the RTV sealant application.

    Apply a bead of room temperature vulcanizing sealant (1) as shown. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    NOTE:

    Leave the seal protector that ships installed onto the NEW crankshaft rear oil seal housing on.

    Install the NEW rear crankshaft rear oil seal housing (2) until the seal protector is flush with the end of the crankshaft.

  33. Press the center of the crankshaft NEW rear oil seal housing in, allowing the crankshaft to push out the seal protector.
  34. DISCARD the seal protector.
  35. Once the NEW rear oil seal housing is completely seated, inspect the seal around the crankshaft to ensure it has not folded over itself.

  37. Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [14x]
  38. Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Bolt (1) - Tighten in sequence [14x] - Fastener Specifications

    Crankshaft Position Sensor (2) - Install

    Oil Pump Suction Pipe Gasket (3) - Install NEW

    Wipe the oil pan surface with the Adhesion Plastic Pan Primer Promoter using a clean shop towel. Allow the cleaner to flash / evaporate. Wipe off the sealing surfaces with a lint free cloth. Do not touch the sealing surface after cleaning to avoid inducing containment debris to the bonding surface area. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  47. Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant
  48. NOTE:

    Do not allow sealant to skim over, the oil pan must be installed within 8 minutes of sealer application.

  49. Apply a 3 mm bead of sealant (1) around the seal bead path, as shown.

    NOTE:

    Use the front cradle to rest the oil pan on while feeding the EN-52483  Cover Installation Guide Pins through the oil pan bolt holes in two locations to keep oil pan square and aid in alignment.

    Oil Pan (2) - Install NEW

  52. NOTE:

    Install some lower oil pan bolts to secure the oil pan.

  53. Lower Oil Pan Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [4x]
  54. EN-52483  Cover Installation Guide Pins - Remove [2x]
  55. NOTE:

    Install the remaining lower oil pan bolts.

  56. Lower Oil Pan Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [13x]
  57. Lower Oil Pan Bolt (1) - Tighten in sequence [17x] - Fastener Specifications

    Flywheel Locating Pin (2) - Install

    Automatic Transmission Flex Plate (2) - Install

  61. NOTE:

    Install NEW bolts. Do NOT reuse old bolts.

  62. If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:
    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
    4. Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
  63. Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Bolt (1) - Install NEW and tighten [8x] - Fastener Specifications

    Remove the EN-52476  Flywheel Lock and Alignment Tool

    Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Retaining Ring (1) - Install NEW

  66. Apply a small amount of lubricant to the Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft (2) splines. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
  67. Install the Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft (2) into the Front Differential Carrier (3).

    NOTE:

    The Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft and Front Differential Carrier are to be installed as a assembly.

    Position and secure the Front Differential Carrier (2) on a transmission jack.

  73. Front Differential CarrierBolt - Tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
  74. Remove the transmission jack from the Front Differential Carrier.
  75. Using the engine support fixture, carefully raise the engine assembly to it's original position.

    Front Axle Vent Hose (1) Install

    Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Bracket (1) - Install

  78. Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Housing Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications

    Engine Mount Bracket (2) - Install

  80. Engine Mount Bracket Bolt (1) - Install NEW and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications

    Engine Wiring Harness (2) - Move into position

    Apply a small amount of lubricant to the front wheel drive intermediate shaft splines. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  84. Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Seal (2) - Install NEW

    Apply a small amount of grease to the front wheel drive intermediate shaft splines. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    NOTE:

    Ensure that the front wheel drive half shaft (1) is securely engaged to the front wheel drive intermediate shaft.

    Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft (1) - Install

    Have an assistant apply the brakes.

  88. Front Wheel Drive Shaft Nut (1) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Retaining Ring (2) @ Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft (1) - Install NEW

    Partially install the Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft (1) into the Front Differential Carrier.

  92. Remove the DT-51504  Seal Protector (2) from the front axle shaft seal.
  93. NOTE:

    Ensure that the front wheel drive half shaft (1) is securely engaged to the front differential carrier.

  94. Completely install the Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft (1) into the Front Differential Carrier.

    Have an assistant apply the brakes.

  96. Front Wheel Drive Shaft Nut (1) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Retainer (1) - Install

  102. Install the drivetrain and front suspension frame assembly. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Removal and Installation (AWD) , or Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Removal and Installation (RWD)
  103. Install the front differential carrier oil drain plug. FRONT AXLE LUBRICANT REPLACEMENT
  104. Install the transmission. Transmission Replacement (All Wheel Drive) , or Transmission Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive)
