Installation Procedure

  1. Clean all sealing surfaces.

    NOTE:
    • The timing chain upper cover sealing surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
    • Install and align the timing chain upper cover to engine block within 10 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • The timing chain upper cover must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant

    Apply approximately a 5 mm (0.2 in) thick bead of sealant (2) on both sides between the camshaft housing and the cylinder head. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .

  3. Check that the 2 Pins (1) are in the camshaft housing or in the timing chain upper cover.

    Timing Chain Upper Cover Seal (1) - Install NEW

  5. Timing Chain Upper Cover (2) - Install

    Timing Chain Upper Cover Bolt - M6 (3) - Install

  7. Timing Chain Upper Cover Bolt - M5 (2) - Install [11x]

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.

    1. Timing Chain Upper Cover Bolt - M6 (2) - Tighten to 15 N.m (11 lb ft)
    2. Timing Chain Upper Cover Bolt - M5 (1) - Tighten [11x] 8.5 N.m (75 lb in)

    Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Gasket (3) - Install NEW

  10. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid (2) - Install
  11. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid Bolt (1) - Install [2x] - Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid Replacement - Intake

    Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Gasket (3) - Install NEW

  13. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid (2) - Install
  14. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid Bolt (1) - Install [2x] - Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid Replacement - Exhaust

    Engine Wiring Harness (3) - Reposition

  16. Retainer (1) @ Timing Chain Upper Cover (2) - Engage [6x]
  17. Connect the 2 electrical connectors to the camshaft position actuator valve solenoids.

    Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube (2) - Install

  19. Connect the quick disconnects (1) and install the retainer (3). Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

    Intake Manifold Cover (1) @ Upper Intake Manifold Bracket (2) - Install

    NOTE:

    Ensure the engine sight shield retainers fully engage the intake manifold cover studs.

    Push down on the front of the intake manifold cover (1) as indicated by the arrow.

  22. Install the oil fill cap.
  23. Connect the battery. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
