Installation Procedure

  1. Clean all sealing surfaces.

    Timing Chain Tensioner (1) - Install

  3. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  4. Timing Chain Tensioner Bolt (2) - Install [2x] 15 N.m (11 lb ft)

    Loosen the 2 bolts (1, 4) of EN-52461-100  Adapter Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (5).

  6. Remove the EN-52461  Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (5) along with the 2 EN-52461-100  Adapter Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (2, 3) from the engine.

    EN-955-10A  Locking Pin (1) - Remove

  8. Clean all sealing surfaces.
  9. Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant

    NOTE:
    • The engine front cover sealing surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
    • Install and align the engine front cover to engine block within 10 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • The engine front cover must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes of applying the sealer.

    Apply approximately a 4 mm (0.16 in) thick bead of sealant (1) to the engine front cover. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  11. Crankshaft Balancer Bolt - Remove and DISCARD

    Install the EN-52440  guide (2) to the crankshaft.

  13. Install the engine front cover (1) backwards using the 2 tabs to size the seal.

    Remove the engine front cover (1) after the seal is sized.

    Engine Front Cover Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [7x]

  19. Remove the EN-52483  Guide Pins
  20. Engine Front Cover Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [2x]

    Engine Front Cover Bolt (1) - Tighten in sequence [9x] - Engine Front Cover Replacement

    Remove the EN-52462-A  Camshaft Tool (1) by rotating the levers in direction of arrows.

    Loosen and disengage the bolt (2) from EN-52462-A  Camshaft Alignment Tool (1).

    Clean and apply sealant to the camshaft cover opening plug (1) [2x]. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  26. NOTE:

    Refer to the procedure link for torque specification.

  27. Camshaft Cover Opening Plug (1) - Install [2x] - Camshaft Timing Chain Replacement (LSY, RWD, with V03) , or Camshaft Timing Chain Replacement (LSY, without V03)

    Engine Wiring Harness (1) @ Camshaft Carrier - Install

    NOTE:
    • The timing chain upper cover sealing surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
    • Install and align the timing chain upper cover to engine block within 10 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • The timing chain upper cover must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant

    Apply approximately a 5 mm (0.2 in) thick bead of sealant (2) on both sides between the camshaft housing and the cylinder head. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .

  30. Check that the 2 Pins (1) are in the camshaft housing or in the timing chain upper cover.

    Timing Chain Upper Cover Seal (1) - Install NEW

    Engine Front Cover Bolt (3) - Install

  34. Timing Belt Upper Cover Bolt (2) - Install [11x]
  35. NOTE:

    Refer to the procedure link for torque specification.

  36. Tighten the engine front cover bolt (3) and, Timing belt upper cover bolts (2) [11x] in sequence. Timing Chain Upper Cover Replacement

    Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Gasket (3) - Install NEW

  38. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid (2) - Install
  39. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid Bolt (1) - Install [2x] - Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid Replacement - Intake

    Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Gasket (3) - Install NEW

  41. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid (2) - Install
  42. Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid Bolt (1) - Install [2x] - Camshaft Position Actuator Valve Solenoid Replacement - Exhaust

    Engine Wiring Harness (3) - Reposition

  44. Retainer (1) @ Timing Chain Upper Cover (2) - Engage [6x]
  45. Connect the 2 electrical connectors to the camshaft position actuator valve solenoids.
  46. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

    NOTE:

    The timing pin (3) is installed into the flexplate for engine timing procedures, it can be damaged if torque is applied to the flexplate with the timing pin engaged. The timing pin must be placed in the retracted position using the handle (1) and twisting to locked position. The slide part (4) to be installed to the flex plate when torque is applied to the flexplate or crankshaft balancer bolt.

    Retract the timing pin (3) using the handle (1) of the EN-52476  Flywheel Lock and Alignment Tool (2).

  48. Ensure to engage the slide (4) of the EN-52476  Flywheel Lock and Alignment Tool (2) into the automatic transmission flexplate.
  49. Lower the vehicle.

    Crankshaft Balancer (2) - Install

  51. NOTE:

    Refer to the procedure link for torque specification.

  52. Crankshaft Balancer Bolt (1) - Install NEW - Crankshaft Balancer Replacement

    Accessory Drive Primary Belt (1) - Install NEW - Accessory Drive Primary Belt Replacement 

  54. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

    NOTE:

    EN-52476  Flywheel Lock and Alignment Tool (2) - Remove

  56. Starter - Install - Starter Replacement (LSY)

    Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Tube (2) - Install

  58. Connect the quick disconnects (1) and install the retainer (3). Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

    Intake Manifold Cover (1) @ Upper Intake Manifold Bracket (2) - Install

    NOTE:

    Ensure the engine sight shield retainers fully engage the intake manifold cover studs.

    Push down on the front of the intake manifold cover (1).

  61. Check and top off engine oil as required.
    1. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
    2. Approximate Fluid Capacities
  62. Install the oil fill cap.
  63. Connect the battery. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
