Installation Procedure
Remove the J-21366 strap (1) from the transmission bell housing.
Install the transmission. (1)
- CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
Transmission Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
- Transmission Stud (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Transmission Stud (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Transmission Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
- Transmission Stud (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Connect the transmission vent hose from the engine.
Connect the electrical connector. (1)
- Install the 5 retainers (2).
If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Remove loose debris from internal and external threads using compressed air.
- Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation.
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- For proper alignment of all torque converter bolts, install the first torque converted bolt in the oval shaped hole.
- Rotate the harmonic balancer center bolt clockwise ONLY, to align the torque converter bolt with the starter opening.

Wiring Harness (1) - Reposition
- Wiring Harness (1) @ Starter (2) - Connect
Starter Solenoid Cable Retainer (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Starter Solenoid Cable Nut (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Starter Heat Shield (2) @ Starter (1) - Install
Starter Shield Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Compressor Air Intake TurbochargerLeft Side - Install
Turbocharger Gasket (2) - Install NEW
- Compressor Air Intake Turbocharger (1) - Remove
Turbocharger Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
Turbocharger Coolant Feed Pipe (3) @ Compressor Air Intake Turbocharger - Install
- Turbocharger Coolant Feed and Return Pipe Gasket (2) @ Compressor Air Intake Turbocharger - Install NEW [2x]
- Turbocharger Coolant Feed and Return Pipe Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Turbocharger Oil Feed Pipe (3) - Install
- Turbocharger Oil Feed Pipe Washer (2) - Install NEW
- Turbocharger Oil Feed Pipe Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

- Positive Assurance Cap (1) - Install

Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Seal (1) - Install NEW [2x]
- NOTE:
Remove the caps from the fittings and plugs from the holes before installing the transmission fluid cooler pipes.

- Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Connector Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Engine Mount Bolt- Right Side (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Engine Mount Bolt- Left Side (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
EN-36857 Engine Lift Bracket Set (1) - Remove
- EN-51768 Engine Support Fixture Adapter Bolts- M10 (2) - Remove

- With the aid of an assistant, position the lift table and powertrain assembly under the vehicle.
- Raise the drivetrain and front suspension assembly, powertrain from the vehicle.
- CAUTION:
Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution .
Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Front Bolt (1) - Install NEW and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications
- Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Rear Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Remove the GE-52200 Powertrain and Battery Lifter from underneath the vehicle.
- Remove the wiring or straps used to secure the engine coolant fan module radiator assembly to the left and right side radiator upper brackets.

Electronic Suspension Strut Wiring Harness Retainer - Left Side and Right Side (1) @ Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle - Install [2x]
Position the engine wiring harness (3) into place.
- Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (4) @ Charge Air Cooler Bracket Plate Stud - Install
- Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (2) @ Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle - Install
- Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (1) @ Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle - Install [2x]
Radiator Outlet Hose Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Install the right side charge air cooler assembly (1) to the vehicle.
Charge Air Cooler Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
- Charge Air Cooler Upper Bracket Nut (2) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications
Install the radiator outlet hose retainer (3) to the radiator outlet hose connector at the right side charge air cooler.
- Install the radiator outlet hose (2) to the right side charge air cooler.
- Radiator Outlet Hose Clip (1) - Install
Install the auxiliary radiator inlet hose retainer (1) to the auxiliary radiator inlet hose connector at the right side charge air cooler.
- Install the auxiliary radiator inlet hose (2) to the right side charge air cooler.
Install the left side charge air cooler assembly (1) to the vehicle.
Charge Air Cooler Bracket Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
- Charge Air Cooler Upper Bracket Nut (1) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications
Install the retainer (1) into the auxiliary water pump outlet upper hose connector.
- Install the auxiliary water pump outlet upper hose (2) to the left side charge air cooler ensuring that the retainer (1) is fully engaged.
- Radiator Outlet Hose Clip (3) - Install
Install the retainer (1) into the auxiliary radiator outlet hose connector.
- Install the auxiliary radiator outlet hose (2) to the left side charge air cooler ensuring that the retainer (1) is fully engaged.
Auxiliary Radiator Front Duct- Left Side (1) - Install
Auxiliary Radiator Front Duct (1) - Install
Front Bumper Impact Bar (2) - Install
- Front Bumper Impact Bar Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [8x] - Fastener Specifications
- Install the wiring harness.

- { If equipped } Forward Range Radar Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications
- { If equipped } Connect the electrical connector.

Install the left and right side front lower control arm rear links (2) into the left and right side steering knuckles.
- Install the left and right side front lower control arm front links (1) into the left and right side steering knuckles.

- Do NOT allow the ball stud to rotate while tightening the nut.
Front Lower Control Arm Ball Stud Nut- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications

Front Lower Control Arm Ball Stud Nut- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear (3) - Install
- Steering Gear Bolt (2) - Install NEW [2x]
- Steering Gear Nut (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Connect the electrical connectors. (1)
- Secure the engine wiring harness to the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear using a tie strap.
Intermediate Steering Shaft (2) @ Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear - Install
- If a NEW threaded component is being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded component is reused, prepare the threaded component using the following steps:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the component using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned component into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the component. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.
- Intermediate Steering Shaft Lower Bolt (1) @ Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- CAUTION:
Ensure the Outer Tie Rod Boot is not twisted or deformed during assembly. If the boot is twisted or deformed, damage to the boot will occur.

Install left and right steering linkage outer tie rods (1) at the left and right steering knuckles.

Install and tighten the left and right steering linkage outer tie rod nuts (1). Fastener Specifications

Front Brake Rotor Cooling Duct Deflector (1)- Left Side and Right Side - Install
- Front Brake Rotor Cooling Duct Deflector Bolt (2)- Left Side and Right Side - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications

Install the 4 chassis harness retainers (1) on the left and right side front brake rotor cooling duct deflectors.
Turbocharger Exhaust Pipe Gasket (2) - Install NEW
- Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter (1) - Install
Catalytic Converter Nut (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
- NOTE:
A special anti-seize compound is used in the HO2S threads. The compound consists of liquid graphite and glass beads. The graphite tends to burn away, but the glass beads remain, making the sensor easier to remove. New, or service replacement sensors already have the compound applied to the threads. If the sensor is removed from an exhaust component and if for any reason the sensor is to be reinstalled, the threads must have anti-seize compound applied before reinstallation. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
Install and tighten the heated oxygen sensor (1) using a suitable tool. Fastener Specifications
- Connect the heated oxygen sensor electrical connector.
Connect the heated oxygen sensor electrical connector. (1)
Turbocharger Exhaust Pipe Gasket (2) - Install NEW
- Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter (1) - Install
Catalytic Converter Nut (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
- NOTE:

Catalytic Converter Brace (2) - Install
- Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket Nut (1) - Install and tighten [5x] - Fastener Specifications
Position the propeller shaft (1) in the vehicle.
If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation.
- Install the 2 propeller shaft bearing support bolts (1) and tighten. Fastener Specifications
Align the reference mark (3) between the propeller shaft flange (1) and the rear axle pinion flange (2).
If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation.
- Install the 3 rear propeller shaft bolts (1) and the 3 rear propeller shaft nuts (2).
- Tighten the 3 the rear propeller shaft bolts (1). Fastener Specifications
Align the reference mark (2) between the propeller shaft flange (3) and the output flange (1) of the transmission.
If NEW threaded components are being installed, loosen the adhesive using a metal pick or similar tool before proceeding. If threaded components are reused, prepare the threaded components using the following steps:
- Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
- Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Apply liquid thread locking adhesive in a strip along half of the length of the external threads, starting at the tip, just prior to installation.
- Install the 3 front propeller shaft bolts (2) and the 3 front propeller shaft nuts (1).
- Tighten the 3 front propeller shaft bolts (1). Fastener Specifications
Transmission Mount (2) - Install
- Transmission Mount Bolt (1) - Loosely install [2x]
Transmission Mount Bracket Bolt (1) - Loosely install [4x]
Transmission Mount Bolt (1) - Tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Transmission Mount Bracket Bolt (1) - Tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
- Remove the jack stand.
Floor Panel Number 2 Cross Bar Reinforcement (2) - Install
- Floor Panel Number 2 Cross Bar Reinforcement Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
Exhaust Intermediate Underbody Heat Shield (2) - Install
- Exhaust Heat Shield Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Catalytic Converter Gasket (2) - Install NEW
- With the aid of an assistant, install the exhaust system to the vehicle.

Electrical Connector- Left Side (1) - Connect
Electrical Connector- Right Side (1) - Connect

Exhaust Muffler (1) @ Exhaust Intermediate Pipe Insulator-Left Side (2) - Install [2x]
Exhaust Pipe Clamp (1) - Tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Catalytic Converter Nut (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Floor Panel Reinforcement (2) - Install
- Floor Panel Number 4 Cross Bar Reinforcement Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications
Underbody Rear Air Deflector- Left Side (5) - Install
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Bracket Bolt- Left Side (3) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Underbody Rear Air Deflector Nut- Left Side (2) - Install and tighten [5x] - Fastener Specifications
- Underbody Front Air Deflector Bolt- Left Side (1) - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications

- Engine Wiring Harness Generator Lead Nut (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Protective Cap (1) - Install
Auxiliary Water Pump (2) - Install
- Charge Air Cooler Front Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Air Conditioning Compressor Front Bracket (3) - Install
- Air Conditioning Compressor Front Bracket Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Air Conditioning Compressor Front Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

Drive Belt Tensioner (2) - Install
- Drive Belt Tensioner Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Air Conditioning Compressor (1) - Install
Air Conditioning Compressor Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- CAUTION:
New Air Conditioning sealing washers should never be exposed to any type of oil or lubricant, the rubber material may absorb the oil causing failures during installation or the life of the vehicle.
Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Seal - Small (1) - Install NEW
- Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Seal - Large (2) - Install NEW
- Air Conditioning Evaporative Connector Hose/Tube and Compressor Hose (3) - Install
- Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Bolt (4) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Wiring Harness Retainer (3) - Install [2x]
- Electrical Connector (4) - Connect [2x]
- Air Conditioning Compressor Rear Bracket (2) - Install
- Air Conditioning Compressor Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Install the front cradle sheer plate (2) between the front bumper fascia center air deflector and the driveline and front suspension cradle and raise into position.
- Ensure that the left and right side wheelhouse liners (1) are positioned in place under the front cradle sheer plate (2).
Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Front Crossmember Brace Bolt (3) - Install and tighten [8x] - Fastener Specifications
- Front Cradle Shear Plate Nut (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Front Cradle Shear Plate Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
- Remove the jack.
Front Bumper Fascia Air Deflector Retainer (2) - Install
- Front Bumper Fascia Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications

Radiator Outlet Pipe Seal (2) - Install NEW
- Radiator Outlet Pipe (1) - Install
Radiator Outlet Pipe Bolt (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Radiator Outlet Pipe Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Wiring Harness Retainer (1) - Install [2x]
Heater Outlet Hose (4) @ Auxiliary Heater Inlet Hose Tee - Install
- Heater Outlet Hose Clamp (3) @ Auxiliary Heater Inlet Hose Tee - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Heater Inlet Hose (2) @ Heater Core - Install
- Heater Inlet Hose Retainer (1) - Engage
Radiator Outlet Pipe Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Radiator Outlet Hose Clip (2) @ Engine Cooler Fan - Install
- Radiator Outlet Hose Clip (1) @ Radiator Outlet Hose Bracket - Install
Radiator Outlet Hose (1) @ Engine Radiator - Install
- Radiator Outlet Hose Clamp (2) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Radiator Outlet Hose (4) @ Radiator Outlet Pipe - Install
- Radiator Outlet Hose (3) @ Engine Oil Cooler Adapter - Install
- Radiator Outlet Hose Clamp (2) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Radiator Outlet Hose Clamp (1) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Use a suitable tool to rotate the drive belt tensioner (1) counterclockwise, then hold tension.
- Install the accessory drive primary belt (2) onto the last idler pulley. Check to ensure that the drive belt is centered on each pulley, and fully seated into ribbed pulleys.
- Slowly release tension from the drive belt tensioner (1).
- Inspect the accessory drive primary belt (2) again to ensure centered on each pulley.
Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose (4) - Install
- Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clip (3) @ Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Pipe Bracket - Connect
Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (1) - Install
Retainer Spring (4) - Engage
- Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (3) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Charge Air Bypass Valve Hose (2) - Install
- Charge Air Bypass Valve Hose Clamp (1) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications
- CAUTION:
The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) line is tamper resistant and must always be replaced once it is removed. The fittings connected to the PCV line must also be replaced if they are damaged when the PCV line is removed. To reduce the risk of damage to the fittings, use a suitable cutting tool and carefully cut the connections away.
Positive Crankcase Ventilation Foul Air Tube (2) - Install NEW
Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Bracket (1) - Install
Oil Level Indicator Tube (3) - Install
- Retainer (2) - Install [2x]
- Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Auxiliary Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (1) - Install
Retainer Spring (3) - Engage
- Charge Air Bypass Valve Hose (2) - Install
- Charge Air Bypass Valve Hose Clamp (1) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications
Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (2) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Turbocharger Wastegate Actuator Vacuum Tank Solenoid Valve Tube (1) - Connect - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
Air Cleaner Assembly (2) - Install
- Air Cleaner Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Install all retainers and wiring harnesses to the air cleaner assembly (2) as necessary.
- Connect the 2 mass airflow sensor electrical connectors.

Front End Sheet Metal Cross Brace- Left Side and Right Side (3) - Install [2x]
- Front Suspension Strut Upper Mounting Nut- Left Side and Right Side (2) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
- Front End Sheet Metal Cross Brace Bolt- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications
- Install all wiring harness retainers to the left and right side front end sheet metal cross braces (3).
Electrical Connector (1) @ Fuel Pump (2) - Connect
- Ensure ALL fittings are clean and dry prior to assembly.
- NOTE:
High pressure fuel feed pipes are one time use only. ALWAYS install a NEW high pressure fuel feed pipe if the pipe is removed OR the fittings are loosened.
Fuel Feed Pipe (1) - Install NEW
- Slide fuel feed pipe fitting (2) back along fuel feed pipe (1) to reveal the formed end (3) of the fuel feed pipe.
- Carefully install the formed end (3) of the fuel feed pipe into the socket of the fuel pump (4).
- Hold the fuel feed pipe firmly in place and hand tighten the fuel feed pipe fitting nut (2) onto the threads of the fuel pump (4).
- Fuel Feed Pipe Fitting (2) @ Fuel Feed Pipe (1) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications
Fuel Feed Pipe Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Electrical Connector (1) @ Fuel Feed Pipe Bracket (2) - Install [2x]
Fuel Feed Pipe (1) - Connect - Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
- WARNING:
The noise cancelling foam component MUST be replaced if it has been exposed to engine fluids. Failure to replace the noise cancelling foam component that has been exposed to engine fluids may result in an engine fire resulting in catastrophic engine damage, and possible injury or death.

Fuel Pipe Shield (1) - Install
Wiring Harness (3) - Install
- Retainer (2) - Install [3x]
- Engine Rear Noise Shield Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
Charge Air Cooler Coolant Hose (4) - Install
- Charge Air Cooler Coolant Hose Clamp (3) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Charge Air Cooler Coolant Hose (2) - Install
- Charge Air Cooler Coolant Hose Clamp (1) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Engine Rear Noise Shield Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Radiator Air Upper Baffle- Upper (3) - Install
- Radiator Air Upper Baffle Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
- Radiator Air Upper Baffle Retainer (1) - Install [5x]
Plenum Front Panel (1) - Install - Plenum Front Panel Removal and Installation (with Blackwing) , or Plenum Front Panel Removal and Installation (without Blackwing)
- Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clamp (4) @ Engine Radiator - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clip (2) @ Engine Control Module Bracket - Install
- Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clamp (1) @ Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Fill the engine oil to the proper level with NEW engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
Oil Filler Cap - Remove
- Intake Manifold Cover (2) - Install
- Intake Manifold Cover Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Oil Filler Cap - Install
- Connect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
- Fill the cooling system to the proper level. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (LF4 Static Fill) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LF4 GE 47716)
- Pressurize the fuel system and inspect for leaks.
- Inspect for Leaks
- Measure and adjust the front toe. Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment
- Program the power steering control module. Control Module References
- Perform the following so the vehicle software relearns the steering center position:
- Raise the front wheels off the ground.
- Start the vehicle.
- Rotate steering wheel to the left lock position and hold tightly for 4 seconds.
- Rotate steering wheel to the right lock position and hold tightly for 4 seconds.
- Repeat steps.
- Lower the vehicle.
