Removal Procedure
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Fuel Pressure Relief
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (LF4 Static Fill) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LF4 GE 47716)
- The steering column
- The intermediate shaft (s)
- The steering gear
- Secure the steering wheel so it will not turn when the mid intermediate steering shaft is disconnected.
- NOTE:
The transmission control lever boot and knob are replaced as an assembly.
Using a flat bladed trim tool, detach the manual transmission control lever boot (2) from the console.
- Lift the manual transmission control lever boot (1) to access the manual transmission control lever knob bolt (3).
- Remove the manual transmission control lever knob bolt (3), then lift off the manual transmission control lever boot and knob as an assembly (1, 2).
Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.
- Reposition the front floor console trim plate (1) to access the electrical connector.
- NOTE:

Disconnect the instrument panel harness connector (1) from the front floor console wiring harness extension harness.
Front Floor Console Trim Plate (1) - Remove
- Disconnect the electrical connectors.
Remove the manual transmission control lever lower boot (1) from the manual transmission control (2).
Remove the 4 manual transmission control bracket bolts (1, 2) securing the manual transmission control assembly to the tunnel reinforcement.
- Push the tabs on the closeout boot (1) inward and down to clear the body structure.
- Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
Plenum Front Panel (1) - Remove - Plenum Front Panel Removal and Installation (with Blackwing) , or Plenum Front Panel Removal and Installation (without Blackwing)
- Oil Filler Cap - Remove
Remove all wiring harness retainers from the front end sheet metal cross braces.
- Front End Sheet Metal Cross Brace Bolt- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [6x]
- Front Suspension Strut Upper Mounting Nut- Left Side and Right Side (2) - Remove [4x]
- Front End Sheet Metal Cross Brace- Left Side and Right Side (3) - Remove [2x]

Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Nut- Right Side (1) - Remove
- Front End Sheet Metal Cross Brace Bolt- Right Side (2) - Remove
- Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace- Right Side (3) - Remove
- Place shop cloths beneath the radiator surge tank outlet pipe connection points to absorb any potential coolant spillage.
Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clamp (1) @ Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose - Disengage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clip (2) @ Engine Control Module Bracket - Remove
- Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clamp (4) @ Engine Radiator - Disengage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Pipe (3) - Remove
- Remove the shop cloths from beneath the radiator surge tank outlet pipe.
- CAUTION:
Always turn the ignition off when installing or removing the ECM connectors in order to prevent damage to the components.
CAUTION:- Turn the ignition OFF when installing or removing the control module connectors and disconnecting or reconnecting the power to the control module in order to prevent internal control module damage.
- Control module damage may result when the metal case contacts battery voltage. DO NOT contact the control module metal case with battery voltage when servicing a control module, using battery booster cables, or when charging the vehicle battery.
- In order to prevent any possible electrostatic discharge damage to the control module, do no touch the connector pins or the soldered components on the circuit board.
- Remove any debris from around the control module connector surfaces before servicing the control module. Inspect the control module connector gaskets, and ensure that the gaskets are installed correctly. The gaskets prevent contaminant intrusion into the control module.
Disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Use a suitable tool to release the locking tabs securing the engine control module (1) to the engine control module bracket.
- Engine Control Module (1) - Remove
Engine Control Module Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove [3x]
Use a suitable tool to release the locking tab and remove the transmission control module (1) by sliding it out from the engine control module bracket (2).
- Engine Control Module Bracket (2) - Remove
Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (1) - Loosen
- Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (2) - Reposition
- Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (3) - Loosen
- Auxiliary Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (4) - Reposition
Disconnect the 2 mass airflow sensor electrical connectors.
- Remove all retainers from the air cleaner assembly and reposition wiring harnesses as necessary.
- Air Cleaner Bolt (1) - Remove
- Air Cleaner Assembly (2) - Remove
- Oil Filler Cap - Remove
Intake Manifold Cover Bolt (1) - Remove
- Intake Manifold Cover (2) - Remove
- Drain the engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
- Install the oil filler cap after removal of the intake manifold cover to prevent debris from falling into the engine.
Engine Rear Noise Shield Bolt (1) - Remove
Engine Rear Noise Shield Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]
- Retainer (2) - Unclip [3x]
- Wiring Harness (3) - Reposition
Fuel Pipe Shield (1) - Remove
- WARNING:
The noise cancelling foam component MUST be replaced if it has been exposed to engine fluids. Failure to replace the noise cancelling foam component that has been exposed to engine fluids may result in an engine fire resulting in catastrophic engine damage, and possible injury or death.
Engine Rear Noise Shield (1) - Remove
Fuel Feed Pipe (1) - Disconnect - Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
Electrical Connector (1) @ Fuel Feed Pipe Bracket (2) - Unclip [2x]
Fuel Feed Pipe Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]
- NOTE:
High pressure fuel feed pipes are one time use only. ALWAYS install a NEW high pressure fuel feed pipe if the pipe is removed OR the fittings are loosened.
Fuel Feed Pipe Fitting (1) - Loosen until disengaged
- Fuel Feed Pipe (2) - Remove and DISCARD
Electrical Connector (1) @ Fuel Pump (2) - Disconnect
- CAUTION:
The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) line is tamper resistant and must always be replaced once it is removed. The fittings connected to the PCV line must also be replaced if they are damaged when the PCV line is removed. To reduce the risk of damage to the fittings, use a suitable cutting tool and carefully cut the connections away.
Using a suitable cutting tool, carefully cut the 2 positive crankcase ventilation tube connectors (1).
- Positive Crankcase Ventilation Foul Air Tube (2) - Remove and DISCARD
- CAUTION:
The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) line is tamper resistant and must always be replaced once it is removed. The fittings connected to the PCV line must also be replaced if they are damaged when the PCV line is removed. To reduce the risk of damage to the fittings, use a suitable cutting tool and carefully cut the connections away.
Using a suitable cutting tool, carefully cut the 2 positive crankcase ventilation tube connectors (1).
- Positive Crankcase Ventilation Fresh Air Tube (2) - Remove and DISCARD
Charge Air Bypass Valve Hose Clamp (1) - Loosen
- Charge Air Bypass Valve Hose (2) - Reposition
- Retainer Spring (3) - Disengage
Auxiliary Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (1) - Remove
Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]
- Retainer (2) - Remove [2x]
- Oil Level Indicator Tube (3) - Reposition
Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Bracket (1) - Remove
Turbocharger Wastegate Actuator Vacuum Source Tube (1) @ Vacuum Pump - Disconnect - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
Charge Air Bypass Valve Hose Clamp (1) - Loosen
- Charge Air Bypass Valve Hose (2) - Reposition
- Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (3) - Loosen
- Retainer Spring (4) - Disengage
Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (1) - Remove
Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clip (3) @ Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Pipe Bracket - Unclip
- Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose (4) - Reposition
- NOTE:
- Observe the location and routing of the accessory drive primary belt to ensure proper installation.

Use a suitable tool to rotate the drive belt tensioner (1) counterclockwise to relieve tension from the accessory drive primary belt (2).
- Remove the accessory drive primary belt (2) from the pulleys and tensioner (1).
- Slowly release tension on the drive belt tensioner (1).
- Clean and inspect the drive belt surfaces of all the pulleys.

With the aid of an assistant, remove the exhaust muffler (1).
- Catalytic Converter Gasket (2) - Remove and DISCARD

- Exhaust Intermediate Underbody Heat Shield (2) - Remove
Floor Panel Number 2 Cross Bar Reinforcement Bolt (1) - Remove [4x]
- Floor Panel Number 2 Cross Bar Reinforcement (2) - Remove
- Using a suitable jack stand, support the rear of the transmission.
- NOTE:
Before removing the propeller shaft from the vehicle, paint or scribe references marks on the transmission flange to the propeller shaft and the rear differential drive flange to ensure minimal driveline system imbalance.
Mark (2) the relationship of the propeller shaft flange (3) and the output flange (1) of the transmission.
Mark (3) the relationship of the propeller shaft flange (1) and the rear axle pinion flange (2).
- NOTE:
Ensure that the propeller shaft is secured to the jack stand.
Support the propeller shaft with a suitable jack stand.
- Remove the 3 front propeller shaft bolts (2) and the 3 front propeller shaft nuts (1).
Remove the 3 rear propeller shaft bolts (1) and the 3 rear propeller shaft nuts (2).
Remove the 2 propeller shaft bearing support bolts (1).
- CAUTION:
Care should be taken not to use sharp or pry tools when separating the propeller shaft coupler from the drive flange. Damage to the coupler could result and replacement of the entire propeller shaft would be required.
NOTE:It may be necessary to apply a small amount of penetrating lubricant or WD-40® to the area shown (1) to aid in separation of the propeller shaft coupling.
If the propeller shaft does not easily separate from the differential or transmission, use a rubber mallet to gently tap the locations (1) on the rubber coupling shown above to separate.
Remove the propeller shaft (1) from the vehicle.
Transmission Mount Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove [4x]
Transmission Mount Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]
- Transmission Mount (2) - Remove
Remove the 2 manual transmission control lever base pin retainers (1).
- Remove the manual transmission control lever base pin (2).
Using a suitable flat-blade tool, release the left side manual transmission control lever base pin retaining tab (1), while sliding the manual transmission control lever base pin (2) outward. The pin will lock again at the outer transmission boss. Using a suitable flat-blade tool, insert the tool between the boss and the rubber mount on the shift control assembly to release the manual transmission control lever base pin retaining tab to slide it further out of the transmission boss. Reposition the transmission slightly to allow extra clearance to completely remove the manual transmission control lever base pin.
- Using a suitable flat-blade tool, release the right side manual transmission control lever base pin retaining tab (1), while sliding the manual transmission control lever base pin (2) outward. The manual transmission control lever base pin will lock again at the outer transmission boss. Using a suitable flat-blade tool, insert the tool between the boss and the rubber mount on the shift control assembly to release the manual transmission control lever base pin retaining tab to slide it further out of the transmission boss. Reposition the transmission slightly to allow extra clearance to completely remove the manual transmission control lever base pin.
- Remove the manual transmission control from the transmission.

Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the heated oxygen sensor (1) using a suitable tool.
Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor electrical connector. (1)
Catalytic Converter Nut (1) - Remove [4x]
Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter (1) - Remove
- Turbocharger Exhaust Pipe Gasket (2) - Remove and DISCARD
Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the heated oxygen sensor (1) using a suitable tool.
Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor electrical connector. (1)
Catalytic Converter Nut (1) - Remove [4x]
Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter (1) - Remove
- Turbocharger Exhaust Pipe Gasket (2) - Remove and DISCARD
Turbocharger Heat Shield Bolt (1) - Remove
Turbocharger Heat Shield (1) - Remove

Remove the 2 stabilizer shaft link nuts (1) from the left and right side stabilizer shaft link.

Loosen the left and right steering linkage outer tie rod nuts (1).
- CAUTION:
Do not attempt to disconnect a steering linkage joint by driving a wedge between the joint and the attached part. Seal damage may result which will cause premature failure of the joint.

Using the CH-42188-B Ball Joint Separator (1), separate the left and right steering linkage outer tie rods (2) from the left and right steering knuckles.

Separate the left and right steering linkage outer tie rods (1) from the left and right steering knuckles.
Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (2) - Remove
- Separate the mid intermediate steering shaft from the intermediate steering shaft by pushing the upper portion of the intermediate shaft (1) downward.
Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt (1) - Remove
Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft (1) - Remove
Disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Remove the tie strap securing the engine wiring harness to the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear.
- Reposition the engine wiring harness away.
Steering Gear Nut (1) - Remove [2x]
- Steering Gear Bolt (2) - Remove and DISCARD [2x]
- Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear (3) - Remove
- NOTE:

- Do NOT allow the ball stud to rotate while loosening the nut.
Front Lower Control Arm Ball Stud Nut- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Loosen [2x]

Using the CH-42188-B Ball Joint Separator (1), separate the left and right side front lower control front links from the left and right side steering knuckles.

Auxiliary Radiator Duct Retainer- Left Side (1) - Remove [3x]
Auxiliary Radiator Duct Retainer- Left Side (1) - Remove [2x]
Auxiliary Radiator Duct Retainer- Right Side (1) - Remove [3x]
Auxiliary Radiator Duct Retainer- Right Side (1) - Remove [2x]

- Transmission Fluid Auxiliary Cooler Bracket Bolt- Left Side and Right Side (2) - Remove [2x]

Reposition the wiring harness.

Auxiliary Radiator Front Duct- Left Side (1) - Remove
Auxiliary Radiator Front Duct- Right Side (1) - Remove
Using an appropriate tool, remove the auxiliary radiator outlet hose retainer (1) from the auxiliary radiator outlet hose connector at the left side charge air cooler.
- Remove the auxiliary radiator outlet hose (2) from the left side charge air cooler.
Radiator Outlet Hose Clip (3) - Remove
- Using an appropriate tool, remove the retainer (1) from the auxiliary water pump outlet upper hose connector at the left side charge air cooler.
- Remove the auxiliary water pump outlet upper hose (2) from the left side charge air cooler.
Charge Air Cooler Upper Bracket Nut (1) - Loosen
- Charge Air Cooler Bracket Bolt (2) - Remove [3x]
Remove the left side charge air cooler assembly (1) from the vehicle.
Using an appropriate tool, remove the auxiliary radiator inlet hose retainer (1) from the auxiliary radiator inlet hose connector at the right side charge air cooler.
- Remove the auxiliary radiator inlet hose (2) from the right side charge air cooler.
Radiator Outlet Hose Clip (1) - Remove
- Using an appropriate tool, remove the radiator outlet hose retainer (3) from the radiator outlet hose connector at the right side charge air cooler.
- Remove the radiator outlet hose (2) from the right side charge air cooler.
Charge Air Cooler Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove [3x]
- Charge Air Cooler Upper Bracket Nut (2) - Loosen
Remove the right side charge air cooler assembly (1) from the vehicle.
Radiator Outlet Hose Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove
Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (1) @ Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle - Remove [2x]
- Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (2) @ Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle - Remove
- Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (4) @ Charge Air Cooler Bracket Plate Stud - Remove
- Reposition the engine wiring harness (3) away from the drivetrain and front suspension cradle.

Electronic Suspension Strut Wiring Harness Retainer - Left Side and Right Side (1) @ Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle - Remove [2x]
- Using a suitable wire or strap secure the engine coolant fan module radiator assembly to the left and right side radiator upper brackets.
- Using a suitable jack, support the drivetrain and front suspension cradle.
Position the GE-52200 Powertrain and Battery Lifter underneath the vehicle.
- Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Rear Bolt (2) - Remove [2x]
- Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Front Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD [6x]
- Lower the drivetrain and front suspension assembly, powertrain from the vehicle.
- EN-51768 Engine Support Fixture Adapter Bolts- M10 (2) - Install and tighten 65 N.m (48 lb ft)
EN-36857 Engine Lift Bracket Set (1) - Install
- EN-51768 Engine Support Fixture Adapter Bolts- M10 (2) - Install and tighten 65 N.m (48 lb ft)
Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Bolt (4) - Remove
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Bracket Bolt (3) - Remove
- Retainer Clip (1) - Disengage [2x]
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe - (2) Disconnect
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe - (2) Remove
Disconnect the electrical connectors. (1, 2, 3, 4)
- Disconnect the wiring harness clips (5) from the transmission.
Remove the hydraulic clutch hose/pipe retaining clip (1) from the clutch slave cylinder.
- Disconnect the hydraulic clutch hose/pipe (2) from the clutch slave cylinder.
- Cap the opening to prevent contamination.
Remove the lower transmission clutch housing to engine fasteners (1, 2).
Disconnect the wiring harness retainers (1) from the transmission clutch housing to engine fasteners.
Remove the four upper transmission clutch housing to engine fasteners (1).
- Support the transmission with a suitable transmission jack.
Remove the left side lower transmission clutch housing to engine fastener (1).
Remove the right side lower transmission clutch housing to engine fastener (1).
- Remove the transmission from the vehicle. To clear the body structure, the front of the engine can be pushed up to tilt the engine and transmission.
Engine Mount Bolt- Left Side (1) - Remove and DISCARD [2x]
Engine Mount Bolt- Right Side (1) - Remove and DISCARD [2x]
With wheels of the vehicle facing straight ahead, secure the steering wheel utilizing steering column anti-rotation pin, steering column lock, or a strap to prevent rotation. Locking of the steering column will prevent damage and a possible malfunction of the SIR system. The steering wheel must be secured in position before disconnecting the following components:
After disconnecting these components, do not rotate the steering wheel or move the front tires and wheels. Failure to follow this procedure may cause the SIR coil assembly to become un-centered and cause possible damage to the SIR coil. If you think the SIR coil has become un-centered, refer to your specific SIR coil's centering procedure to re-center SIR Coil.
Cap the fittings and plug the holes when removing the transmission fluid cooler pipes.

Care must be taken when disassembling the clutch actuator cylinder hose connector from the clutch actuator cylinder. Do not remove, misposition, or damage the internal restrictor valve/Peak Torque Limiter (PTL). Operating a vehicle with a removed, mispositioned, or damaged PTL valve could result in severe driveline damage.
Do not leave the engine tilted on its mounts for an extended amount of time.
