Installation Procedure
Align the splines of the oil pump drive shaft (1) to mesh into the oil pump vane rotor (3).
- Oil Pump Drive Shaft (1) @ Oil Pump (2) - Install
Oil Pump Seal (4) - Install NEW
- Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve (2) - Install
- Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Oil Pump Gasket (3) - Install NEW
- Oil Pump (2) - Install
- Oil Pump Bolt (1) - Install [3x] - Fastener Specifications
- Lubricate the bearings inside of the balancer shaft lower housing with clean engine oil. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
Install the balancer shaft lower housing and oil pump as an assembly (4).
- Lower Crankcase Extension Bolt (2) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Balancer Shaft Housing Bolt (1, 3) - Install [7x] - Fastener Specifications
Loosen the EN-52442 Balance Shaft Holding Tool thumb screw (3), then slide the wedge of the EN-52442 Balance Shaft Holding Tool (2) away from the balance shaft weights.
- EN-52442 Balance Shaft Holding Tool (1) - Remove
- NOTE:
Tilt the balancer shaft access hole plate to install through the access hole, then rotate it clockwise until it stops.
Balancer Shaft Access Hole Plate (3) - Install
- Balancer Shaft Access Hole Washer (2) - Install
- Balancer Shaft Access Hole Nut (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Oil Pump Suction Pipe Gasket (3) - Install NEW
- Oil Pump Screen (2) - Install
- Oil Pump Screen Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Positive Crankcase Ventilation Oil Separator Drain Pipe (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Engine Oil Level Indicator Control Module Wiring Harness (1) - Reposition
- Retainer (3) - Install [2x]
- Electrical Connector (1) @ Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve (2) - Connect
- Clean all sealing surfaces.
- Spray Low LOC brake cleaner on the LCE sealing surface and wipe off with a clean shop towel. Avoid touching the surface after cleaning and air dry with shop air.
- Wipe the oil pan surface with the adhesion plastic pan primer promoter and a clean shop towel. Allow the cleaner to flash / evaporate. Wipe off the sealing surfaces with a lint free cloth. Do not touch the sealing surface after cleaning to avoid inducing containment debris to the bonding surface area. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- NOTE:
Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant
Apply approximately a 4 mm (0.16 in) thick bead of sealant (1) to the lower oil pan. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- NOTE:
- The engine block lower structural extension surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
- Install and align the oil pan to the block within 10 minutes after applying the sealer.
- The oil pan must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes after applying the sealer.
Install the EN-52483 Guide Pins (1) in two locations to keep oil pan square.
- Lower Oil Pan (2) - Install
- Lower Oil Pan Bolt (3) - Install and tighten in sequence [18x] - Fastener Specifications
- Remove the EN-52483 Guide Pins (1).
- Install harness retainers as needed.
Front Compartment Air Deflector (2) - Install
- Front Compartment Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (3) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Engine Front Splash Shield Retainer (2) - Install [2x]
- Engine Front Splash Shield Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
- Engine Front Splash Shield Retainer (2) - Install [2x]
- Engine Front Splash Shield Bolt (3) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
Front Bumper Fascia Center Air Deflector Retainer (2) - Install [2x]
- Front Bumper Fascia Center Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [5x] - Fastener Specifications
- Fill the engine oil to the proper level with NEW engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (RWD) , or Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (AWD)
- Connect the battery. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
- Perform the engine oil life reset. GM Oil Life System Resetting (With Scan Tool) , or GM Oil Life System Resetting (Without Scan Tool)
Ensure the splines on the oil pump drive shaft are properly aligned to mesh into the oil pump vane rotor during oil pump drive shaft installation. Excessive force on the oil pump driveshaft during installation into the oil pump may result in damage to the oil pump vane rotor.
Oil pump locating pins (3) shown for visual purpose, they are not serviceable.
