Installation Procedure

  1. GM5873722
    NOTE:
    • Align the notch of the crankshaft balancer to the timing pin in the crankshaft.
    • Some components not shown for graphic clarity.

    Crankshaft Balancer (1) - Loosely install

    NOTE:

    Some components not shown for graphic clarity.

    Install the EN-41478 - A  Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer (1) and the EN-41665 - A  Crankshaft Balancer and Sprocket Installer (2) to the crankshaft balancer (2).

  3. Use the adjustment nut on the EN-41478 - A  Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer (1) to properly seat the crankshaft balancer (3).
  4. Once the crankshaft balancer has been properly seated, remove the EN-41478 - A  Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer (1) and the EN-41665 - A  Crankshaft Balancer and Sprocket Installer (2).

    Install the EN-52287  Balancer Holding Kit (1) and the EN-956 - 1  Extension Bar (2) to the crankshaft balancer (3).

    Crankshaft Balancer Bolt (1) - Install NEW and tighten - Fastener Specifications

  7. Remove the EN-52287  Balancer Holding Kit (1) and the EN-956 - 1  Extension Bar (2) to the crankshaft balancer (3).

    Install the front cradle sheer plate (2) between the front bumper fascia center air deflector and the driveline and front suspension cradle and raise into position.

  9. Ensure that the left and right side wheelhouse liners (1) are positioned in place under the front cradle sheer plate (2).

    Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications

    Front Crossmember Brace Bolt (3) - Install and tighten [8x] - Fastener Specifications

  12. Front Cradle Shear Plate Nut (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  13. Front Cradle Shear Plate Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
  14. Remove the jack.

    Front Bumper Fascia Air Deflector Retainer (2) - Install

  16. Front Bumper Fascia Air Deflector Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications

    Front Compartment Air Deflector- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Install

    Front Compartment Air Deflector Bolt- Left Side and Right Side (3) - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications

  19. Front Wheelhouse Liner Retainer- Left Side and Right Side (2) - Install [2x]
  20. Front Wheelhouse Liner Bolt- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications
  21. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.

    Radiator Outlet Hose (1) - Install

    Install the radiator outlet hose (2) to the right side charge air cooler ensuring that it is fully seated.

  24. Install the radiator outlet hose retainer (3) into the radiator outlet hose connector.
  25. Radiator Outlet Hose Clip (1) @ Charge Air Cooler Bracket - Install

    Front Wheelhouse Liner- Right Side (3) - Install - Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement , or Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement (Blackwing)

    Radiator Outlet Hose Clip (2) @ Engine Cooler Fan - Install

  28. Radiator Outlet Hose Clip (1) @ Radiator Outlet Hose Bracket - Install

    Radiator Outlet Hose (1) @ Engine Radiator - Install

  30. Radiator Outlet Hose Clamp (2) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type

    Radiator Outlet Hose (4) @ Radiator Outlet Pipe - Install

  32. Radiator Outlet Hose (3) @ Engine Oil Cooler Adapter - Install
  33. Radiator Outlet Hose Clamp (2) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
  34. Radiator Outlet Hose Clamp (1) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type

    Use a suitable tool to rotate the drive belt tensioner (1) counterclockwise, then hold tension.

  36. Install the accessory drive primary belt (2) onto the last idler pulley. Check to ensure that the drive belt is centered on each pulley, and fully seated into ribbed pulleys.
  37. Slowly release tension from the drive belt tensioner (1).
  38. Inspect the accessory drive primary belt (2) again to ensure centered on each pulley.

    Air Cleaner Assembly (2) - Install

  40. Air Cleaner Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Fastener Specifications
  41. Install all retainers and wiring harnesses to the air cleaner assembly as necessary.
  42. Connect the 2 mass airflow sensor electrical connectors.

    Auxiliary Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (4) - Install

  44. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (3) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications
  45. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct (2) - Install
  46. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (1) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications

    Front End Sheet Metal Cross Brace- Left Side and Right Side (3) - Install [2x]

  48. Front Suspension Strut Upper Mounting Nut- Left Side and Right Side (2) - Install and tighten [4x] - Fastener Specifications
  49. Front End Sheet Metal Cross Brace Bolt- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Install and tighten [6x] - Fastener Specifications
  50. Install all wiring harness retainers to the front end sheet metal cross braces.

    Radiator Air Upper Baffle- Upper (3) - Install

  52. Radiator Air Upper Baffle Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] - Fastener Specifications
  53. Radiator Air Upper Baffle Retainer (1) - Install [5x]

    Transmission Control Module (1) @ Engine Control Module Bracket (2) - Install

  55. Engine Control Module Bracket (2) - Install

    Engine Control Module Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [3x] - Fastener Specifications

    Engine Control Module (1) - Install

  58. Connect the electrical connectors.

    Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Pipe (3) - Install

  60. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clamp (4) @ Engine Radiator - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
  61. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clip (2) @ Engine Control Module Bracket - Install
  62. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Clamp (1) @ Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
  63. Connect the negative battery cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
  64. Fill the cooling system to the proper level. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (LF4 Static Fill) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (LF4 GE 47716)
  65. Start the engine and check for coolant leaks.
  66. Perform the crankshaft position variation learn. Crankshaft Position Variation Learn
