Removal Procedure

    Disconnect the transmission vent hose retainers (2) from the fuel pipe shield (3) during removal of the shield. Fuel Pipe Shield Replacement (LF4)

    Remove the radiator outlet pipe retaining bolt (1) from the right rear cylinder head.

  3. Disconnect and reposition the inlet hose from the thermostat housing. Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (LF4) .
  4. Disconnect and reposition the outlet hose from the thermostat housing. Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (LF4) .
  5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (ATS-V) .
  6. Disconnect the electrical wiring harness retainers from the upper transmission to engine stud bolts and from the transmission.
  7. Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (LF4) - Remove
  8. Transmission Heat Shield Replacement  - Remove

    Disconnect the transmission range selector lever cable terminal (1) from the transmission manual shift lever pin (6).

  10. Slide the retainer (4) forward to release the transmission range selector lever cable (5) from the bracket.
  11. Starter Replacement (LF4 - Automatic Transmission) - Remove

    Place an oil drain pan under the transmission fluid cooler pipes (1).

  13. Remove the transmission fluid cooler inlet and outlet pipes (1) from the transmission, and position aside, or remove from the vehicle as necessary. Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LF4 With M5U) .
  14. Plug the open fluid ports to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

    Remove the transmission close out plug (1).

  16. Mark the torque converter to flexplate orientation to ensure proper realignment.

    Repeat the following steps for all torque converter bolts (1):

    1. Rotate the harmonic balancer center bolt clockwise ONLY, in order to align the torque converter bolt with the starter opening.
    2. Remove and discard the torque converter bolt.

    Remove the catalytic converter brace bracket (1) from the transmission. Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket Replacement (LF4)

  19. Support the transmission with a suitable transmission jack.

    Remove the transmission to engine bolts (1, 2, 3, 4).

    Remove the right center transmission to engine bolt (1).

    Remove the six transmission to engine bolts (1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7).

  24. Pull the transmission straight back.
  25. Install the J-21366  strap onto the transmission bell housing to retain the torque converter.
  26. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.

    Remove the transmission converter cover bolts (1) and transmission converter cover.

  28. Transfer components as necessary.
  29. Inspect the transmission fluid cooler, hoses, and pipes for leaks or damage. Replace as necessary.
