Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the oil indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator Tube Replacement .
  2. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  3. Remove the steering rack. Refer to Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear Replacement .
  4. Remove the starter. Refer to Starter Replacement (L83, L86) .
  5. Remove the drivetrain and front suspension frame front crossmember. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Front Crossmember Replacement .
  6. If equipped with 4WD, remove the front axle. Refer to Front Axle Replacement (8.25 Inch LD Axle)Front Axle Replacement (9.25 Inch HD Axle) .

  7. Remove the engine harness retainers (1).

  8. Remove the engine harness retainers (1).

  9. Remove the cooler line bracket bolt (1).
  10. Disconnect electrical connector (2).
  11. Remove the engine harness retainers (3).

  12. Remove the left flywheel inspection cover.

  13. Remove the right flywheel inspection cover.

  14. Remove the oil cooler bracket fastener (1) and separate the oil cooler hoses (2) from the engine block.
  15. Remove the transmission cooler line bracket retaining nut and reposition the bracket.

  16. Remove the transmission to oil pan bolts (1).

  17. Remove the oil pan bolts (1, 2).
  18. Remove the oil pan (3).
  19. Transfer parts as necessary.
  20. For oil pan disassemble, refer to Oil Pan Disassemble .
  21. For oil pan cleaning and inspection, refer to Oil Pan Cleaning and Inspection .
