Removal Procedure

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Remove the fuel pipe shield. Refer to Fuel Pipe Shield Replacement (LFX) .
  3. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement (LFX) .
  4. Remove and DISCARD the fuel feed intermediate pipe. Refer to Fuel Feed Intermediate Pipe Replacement (LFX) .

  5. Remove the fuel injection fuel rail noise shield (1) from the engine (2).

  6. Cut the plastic tie strap (1).
  7. Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor electrical connector (2).
  8. Remove the fuel pressure sensor (3).
  9. Disconnect the bank 2 fuel rail electrical connector.
  10. Remove Fuel Feed Pipe - at engine Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (At Tank AWD) Fuel Feed Pipe Replacement (LF3 At Engine)

  11. Remove the bank 2 fuel rail fasteners (1).

  12. Remove the bank 1 fuel rail fasteners (1) for clearance purposes.

  13. Using the EN-49248-4  hook (1), raise the fuel rail (2) as an assembly.
  14. Once the fuel rail is free, remove the EN-49248  remover (1).

  15. Slide the fuel rail (1) toward the rear of the engine approximately 1 inch (25.4mm), in order to clear the center injector bore.
    16. NOTE:

    The direct fuel injectors must be rebuilt whenever the injector has been released from the fuel rail or cylinder head.

  16. Once the fuel rail is removed, remove the fuel injectors and rebuild them. Refer to Fuel Rail and Injectors Cleaning and Inspection (LF3) .
