Overrun Clutch Assembly Disassemble

Tools Required
- J 38734 Intermediate Spring Compressor Adapter. See Special Tools .
- J 23327 Clutch Spring Compressor. See Special Tools .
- Separate the overdrive carrier assembly (514) from the overrun clutch housing assembly (504).
- Remove the overdrive clutch roller assembly (512) from the overrun clutch housing assembly (504).
- Remove the overrun clutch backing plate retainer ring (511) from the overrun clutch housing assembly (504).
- Remove the overrun clutch backing plate (510) and the overrun clutch plates (508, 509).
- Inspect the overrun clutch plates (508-510) for burning, scoring, flaking, pitting, and wear.
- Using the J 23327 and the J 38734 , remove the overrun clutch spring assembly (506). See Special Tools .
- Remove the overrun clutch spring retainer ring (507).
- Remove the tools.
- Remove the overrun clutch spring assembly (506).
- Remove the overrun clutch piston assembly (505).
- Inspect the overrun clutch spring assembly (506) for collapsed coils and distortion.
- Inspect the overrun clutch piston assembly (505) for cracks and a cut seal.
- Inspect the overrun clutch housing assembly (504) for wear, clogged lubrication holes, and damaged thrust surfaces.
