Installation Procedure

  1. Install the engine to the front frame assembly.
  2. Remove the J 41798  from the engine. See Special Tools and Equipment . Refer to Engine Support Fixture .
  3. With the aid of an assistant, raise the table and/or raise the vehicle to install the engine, front frame, and suspension assembly to the vehicle.
  4. Ensure that all the hoses, wires, pipes, and shock modules clear the vehicle during the installation process.
  5. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  6. Install the frame bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the frame bolts to 191 N.m (141 lb ft).

  7. Install the right and left shock module upper mounting bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the shock module bolts to 112 N.m (83 lb ft).

  8. Raise the vehicle and remove the lift table.

  10. Connect the wiring harness (1) to the PCM and install the PCM to the vehicle. Refer to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.7L.
  11. Install the rear brake lines to the clip on the right frame rail. Install the brake bundle clips to the right and left frame rails.

  13. Install the concentric slave cylinder. Refer to Clutch Concentric Actuator Cylinder Replacement (CTS) or Clutch Concentric Actuator Cylinder Replacement (CTS-V) in Clutch.
  14. Install the transmission assembly. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - Tremec 6-Speed.
  15. Lower the vehicle.

  17. Route the rear brake lines in front of the wiring harness. Install the 2 rear brake lines (1) to the BPMV. Refer to Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) Replacement (CTS) or Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) Replacement (CTS-V) in Antilock Brake System.

  19. Connect the heater hoses to the engine.
  20. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  22. Install the upper intermediate shaft to center intermediate shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement - Center in Steering Wheel and Column.

  24. Install the windshield washer reservoir-to-frame brace (2). Refer to Washer Solvent Container Replacement (w/o CE4) in Wiper/Washer Systems.
  25. Install the right wheelhouse liner. Refer to Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Front in Body Front End.
  26. Install the front tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  27. Install the power steering hose and air conditioning suction hose into the proper positions.

  29. Install the power steering oil cooler and nuts (1) to the front frame. Refer to Power Steering Cooler Replacement (FE3) or Power Steering Cooler Replacement (FE1) or Power Steering Cooler Replacement (FE4) in Power Steering System.
  30. Install the air conditioning condenser assembly. Refer to Condenser Replacement (MAE) or Condenser Replacement (CZ3) or Condenser Replacement (LS6) in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  31. Install the radiator assembly. Refer to Radiator Replacement (LS6) in Engine Cooling.
  32. Install the electric cooling fan assembly. Refer to Cooling Fan Replacement - Electric (LS6) in Engine Cooling.
  33. Install the ground strap to the right front frame rail. Refer to Harness Routing Views in Wiring Systems.
  34. Connect the engine wiring harness C5 connector at the inside of the underhood electrical center. Refer to Underhood Electrical Center or Junction Block Replacement in Wiring Systems.

  36. Connect the wiring harness connectors (3, 4) at the TAC module bracket.
  37. Install the TAC module (2) to the bracket located near the underhood electrical center. Refer to Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) Module Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.7L.
  38. Connect the electrical connectors (1) to the TAC module.
  39. Connect the chassis electrical connector located at the top of the right shock tower.

  41. Install the positive battery cable and nut to the inside of the underhood electrical center. Refer to Battery Positive Cable Replacement (LHD) or Battery Positive Cable Replacement (RHD) or Battery Positive Cable Replacement (LS6) in Engine Electrical.
  42. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement (LHD) or Battery Replacement (RHD) in Engine Electrical.
  43. Install the negative battery cable to the retaining feature on the right shock tower.

  45. Install the negative battery cable and bolt (1) to the right fender flange. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Replacement (LHD) or Battery Negative Cable Replacement (RHD) or Battery Negative Cable Replacement (LS6) in Engine Electrical.
  46. Install the underhood electrical center cover.
  47. Connect the engine wiring harness connector C102 at the front of dash. Refer to Harness Routing Views in Wiring Systems.

  49. Connect the chassis-to-engine EVAP pipe (2) at the right rear of the engine. Refer to Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Hoses/Pipes Replacement - Engine in Engine Controls - 5.7L.
  50. Connect the chassis fuel line (3) to the engine fuel line (4) at the right rear of the engine. Refer to Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Metal Collar) in Engine Controls - 5.7L.
  51. Connect the electrical connector C103 (3).
  52. Connect the electrical connectors, C105 and C107, at the left shock tower. Refer to Harness Routing Views in Wiring Systems.

  54. Install the master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.
  55. Install the master cylinder brake lines to the retainers at the left shock tower.
  56. Connect the brake fluid level switch electrical connector.
  57. Connect the brake booster vacuum line to the brake booster.

  59. Install the air conditioning liquid line and retainer (1) to the vehicle. Refer to Liquid Line Replacement (LS6) in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.

  61. Install the air conditioning suction hose and retainer (1) to the front of dash and the retaining feature on the left shock tower. Refer to Suction Hose Replacement (LS6) in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.

  63. Connect the throttle body heater outlet hose (1) to the throttle body.
  64. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.7L.
  65. Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement .
  66. Install the cross vehicle brace. Refer to Brace Replacement - Cross Vehicle in Body Front End.
  67. Connect the battery positive and negative cables to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure and Battery Positive Cable Replacement (LHD) or Battery Positive Cable Replacement (RHD) or Battery Positive Cable Replacement (LS6) in Engine Electrical.

  69. Install the shifter assembly mounting bolts (2). Refer to Shift Control Assembly Replacement in Manual Transmission - Tremec 6-Speed.

  71. Remove the J 42640  from the steering column.
  72. Fill the engine with engine oil. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations and Capacities - Approximate Fluid in Maintenance and Lubrication.
  73. Check the transmission fluid level and add fluid as necessary. Refer to Transmission Fluid Level Inspection in Manual Transmission - Tremec 6-Speed.
  74. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (LS6) in Engine Cooling.
  75. Recharge the HVAC system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
