Installation Procedure

  1. Install the upper intermediate shaft to the steering column.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  2. Install the upper intermediate shaft to the steering column retaining bolt.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the upper intermediate shaft to the steering column retaining bolt to 48 N.m (35 lb ft).

  3. Install the steering column. Refer to STEERING COLUMN REPLACEMENT .

  4. Raise the vehicle. Refer to JACKING AND LIFTING in General Information.
  5. Install the upper intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft.
  6. Install the upper intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft retaining bolt.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the retaining bolt to 48 N.m (35 lb ft).

  7. Lower the vehicle.

  8. Unlock the steering column by removing J 42640  from the steering column lower trim cover access hole. See Special Tools and Equipment .
  9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling ZONE 3 in SIR.
