Test Am: Chime Always On

  1. If audible warnings diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If audible warnings diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform AUDIBLE WARNINGS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove ignition key from ignition switch. Turn headlights off. Open driver's door. If chime activates, go to next step. If chime does not activate, inspect for intermittents. See TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
  3. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, near steering column. Using scan tool, observe key-in ignition parameter in Instrument Panel Module (IPC) non HVAC data list. If key-in ignition parameter does not display NO, go to next step. If key-in ignition parameter displays NO, go to step  5 .
  4. Disconnect ignition switch harness connector. Using scan tool, observe key in ignition parameter. If key in ignition parameter does not display NO, go to step  7 . If key in ignition parameter displays NO, go to step  8 .
  5. Turn headlight switch off. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe park lamp parameter and head lamp switch parameter in Dash Integration Module (DIM) inputs data list. If park lamp parameter or head lamp switch parameter does not display ON, go to next step. If park lamp parameter or head lamp switch parameter displays ON, perform LIGHTING SYSTEMS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  6. Close driver's door. Disconnect audio amplifier 24-pin harness connector C1. Audio amplifier is located behind rear seat. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a DVOM, measure AC voltage between audio amplifier harness connector C1 terminals A12 (Purple/White wire) and B12 (Dark Blue/White wire). AC voltage should be 0.6-0.7 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to step  10 . If voltage is not as specified, go to step  11 .
  7. Inspect Light Green wire for a short to ground between ignition switch and IPM harness connector C1 terminal D7. If problem does not exist, go to step  9 . If problem exists, repair Light Green wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  16 .
  8. Inspect ignition switch harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  12 . If problem exists, repair ignition switch harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  16 .
  9. Inspect IPM harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  13 . If problem exists, repair IPM harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  16 .
  10. Inspect audio amplifier harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  14 . If problem exists, repair audio amplifier harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  16 .
  11. Inspect radio harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  15 . If problem exists, repair radio harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  16 .
  12. Replace ignition switch. After repair, go to step  16 .
  13. Replace IPM, then go to step  16 .
  14. Replace audio amplifier. After repair, go to step  16 .
  15. Replace radio, then go to next step.
  16. Operate system to verify repair. If system is not operating correctly, repeat test beginning at step  2 .
