Test An: Chime Inoperative

  1. If audible warnings diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If audible warnings diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform AUDIBLE WARNINGS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn radio on. Adjust radio balance and fade to left front speaker. If speaker operates correctly, go to next step. If speaker does not operate correctly, repair radio and/or speaker as necessary.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, near steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Open driver's door. Using scan tool, observe driver's door ajar switch parameter in Driver's Door Module (DDM) inputs data list. If driver's door ajar switch parameter display ON, go to next step. If driver's door ajar switch parameter does not display ON, perform TEST O: DOOR AJAR INDICATOR INOPERATIVE  .
  4. Turn headlights on. Using scan tool, observe head lamp switch parameter in Dash Integration Module (DIM) inputs data list. If head lamp switch parameter displays ON, go to next step. If head lamp switch parameter does not display ON, repair low beam headlights as necessary. See appropriate HEADLIGHT SYSTEMS & DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS article.
  5. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe key in ignition parameter in Instrument Panel Module (IPM) non HVAC data list. If key-in ignition parameter does not display YES, go to next step. If key-in ignition parameter displays YES, go to step  7 .
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect ignition switch harness connector. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between ground and ignition switch harness connector terminal "D" (Light Green wire). Using scan tool, observe key-in ignition parameter. If key-in ignition parameter does not display YES, go to step  8 . If key-in ignition parameter displays YES, go to step  9 .
  7. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect audio amplifier harness connector. Audio amplifier is located behind rear seat. Insert ignition key into ignition switch. Open driver's door. Using a DVOM, measure AC voltage between audio amplifier harness connector terminals A12 (Purple/White wire) and B12 (Dark Blue/White wire). AC voltage should be 0.6-0.7 volts. If AC voltage is not as specified, go to step  10 . If AC voltage is as specified, go to step  14 .
  8. Inspect Light Green wire for an open or high resistance between ignition switch harness connector terminal "D" and IPM harness connector C1 terminal D7. If problem does not exist, go to step  13 . If problem exists, repair Light Green wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  20 .
  9. Inspect Black/White wire for an open between ground and ignition switch harness connector terminal "E". Ground point is located on right front corner of passenger compartment, below sill trim plate. If problem does not exist, go to step  12 . If problem exists, repair Black/White wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  20 .
  10. Inspect Dark Blue/White wire for an open, short to ground or short to voltage between audio amplifier harness connector C1 terminal B12 and radio harness connector C1 terminal F13. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair Dark Blue/White wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  20 .
  11. Inspect Purple/White wire for an open, short to ground or short to voltage between audio amplifier harness connector C1 terminal A12 and radio harness connector C1 terminal F12. If problem does not exist, go to step  15 . If problem exists, repair Purple/White wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  20 .
  12. Inspect ignition switch harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  16 . If problem exists, repair ignition switch harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  20 .
  13. Inspect IPM harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  17 . If problem exists, repair IPM harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  20 .
  14. Inspect audio amplifier harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  18 . If problem exists, repair audio amplifier harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  20 .
  15. Inspect radio harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  19 . If problem exists, repair radio harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  20 .
  16. Replace ignition switch, then go to step  20 .
  17. Replace IPM, then go to step  20 .
  18. Replace audio amplifier. After repair, go to step  20 .
  19. Replace radio, then go to next step.
  20. Operate system to verify repair. If system is not operating correctly, repeat test beginning at step  2 .
