Test X: FOGLIGHT Indicator Always On/Inoperative

  1. If lighting diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If lighting diagnostic system check was not performed, go to LIGHTING DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECKS.
  2. Check operation of front foglights. If front foglights operate properly, go to next step. If front foglights do not operate properly, diagnose foglight circuit. See appropriate EXTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  3. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) SPECIAL FUNCTIONS and perform DISPLAY(S) TEST. Observe front foglight indicator during test. If front foglight indicator comes on during test and then turns off, problem is intermittent, check wiring and connections to foglights. If front foglight indicator does not come on during test and then turn off, go to next step.
  4. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  5. After repairs, recheck operation of foglight indicator. If indicator operates properly, repair is complete. If indicator does not operate properly, return to step  2.
