Test V: Fasten Safety Belt Indicator/Chime Inoperative
- If seat belt diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If seat belt diagnostic system check was not performed, go to SEAT BELT DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECKS.
- Turn ignition on. Observe fasten safety belt indicator while buckling and unbuckling the driver's seat belt. If system does not operate properly, go to next step. If system operates properly, problem is intermittent, check wiring and connections to sensing and diagnostic module harness connector.
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure. Turn ignition on. Buckle driver's seat belt. Select SIR data list. Observe DRIVER SEAT BELT parameter. If DRIVER SEAT BELT parameter is BUCKLED, go to next step. If DRIVER SEAT BELT parameter is not BUCKLED, go to step 5.
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) harness connector. Disconnect Driver's seat belt switch harness connector. Check for short to ground in Black/White wire between SDM connector terminal A15 and seat belt switch harness connector terminal "A". See Fig 1. If no problems are found, go to next step. If any problems are found and corrected, go to step 8.
- Check for an open or high resistance in Dark Blue wire between SDM harness connector terminal A16 and driver's seat belt switch harness connector terminal "B". If no problem was found, go to next step. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step 8.
- Replace driver's seat belt switch. See DRIVER'S SEAT BELT SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
- After repairs, recheck operation of indicator. If indicator operates properly, repair is complete. If indicator does not operate properly, return to step 2.
