Seat Belts Diagnostic System Check
NOTE:
The memory seat module (MSM) diagnostic check is an organized approach to identify problems associated with the module. This check must be the starting point for any MSM complaint, and will direct you to the next logical step in diagnosing the complaint. The MSM is a very reliable component and is not likely the cause of the malfunction. Most system complaints are linked to faulty wiring and connectors, and occasionally to components. Any condition which results in the interruption of power to the MSM or battery or ignition voltage (9-16 volts) out of range. A thorough test drive is often needed in order to repeat a malfunction.
- Connect scan tool. Turn ignition on. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, see SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article.
- Turn ignition on. Try to establish communication with Memory Seat Module (MSM). If scan tool communicates with MSM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with MSM, see SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article.
- Select Memory Seat Module display DTC function on scan tool. If scan tool displays any DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool does not display any DTCs, repair any damage or incorrect installation for seat belts.
- If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", diagnose communication problem. See SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article.
- If scan tool does not display DTC B1000, B1004, B1007 or B1009, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC B1000, B1004, B1007 or B1009, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article.
