Test R: Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge Inaccurate/Inoperative
- If instrument cluster diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If instrument cluster diagnostic system check was not performed, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECKS.
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure. Turn ignition on. Select POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE ENGINE DATA 1 data list. Observe ECT parameter and display. If ECT parameter does not match engine coolant temperature display, go to next step. If ECT parameter matches engine coolant temperature display, problem is intermittent, check wiring and connections to ECT sensor.
- Replace Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
- After repairs, recheck operation of engine coolant temperature gauge. If engine coolant temperature gauge operates properly, repair is complete. If engine coolant temperature gauge does not operate properly, return to step 2.
