Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, see SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article.
  2. Turn ignition on. Try to establish communication with Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), Powertrain Control Module (PCM), Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM), inflatable restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM), Dash Integration Module (DIM), Rear Integration Module (RIM), Instrument Panel Integration Module (IPM), Theft Deterrent Module, Driver Door Module (DDM), Passenger Front Door Module (PFDM), Left Rear Door Module (LRDM) and Right Rear Door Module (RRDM). If scan tool communicates with all modules listed, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with all modules listed, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article.
  3. Select display DTCs function for each module listed in step  2. If any DTCs are set for any module listed, go to next step. If no DTCs are set for any module listed, try to diagnose by symptom. See SYSTEM TESTS .
  4. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article. If scan tool does not display and DTCs that begin with "U", go to next step.
  5. If scan tool does not display DTC B1000, B1004, B1007, B1009, B1013, B1014, B1390, B1422, B1556, B1656 or B1658, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC B1000, B1004, B1007, B1009, B1013, B1014, B1390, B1422, B1556, B1656 or B1658, go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article.
  6. If scan tool displays DTC B1327, B1328, B1513, B1514, See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article. If scan tool displays P0560, P0562, P0563, P0615, P0621 or P0622, go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 4.6L DEVILLE, ELDORADO & SEVILLE article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If scan tool does not display DTC B1327, B1328, B1513, B1514, P0560, P0562, P0563, P0615, P0621 or P0622, diagnose any other DTCs that are present.
