Test G: Low Coolant Indicator Always On

  1. If engine cooling system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If engine cooling system diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to ENGINE COOLING DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECKS.
  2. Turn ignition on. If low coolant level indicator illuminates, go to next step. If low coolant level indicator does not illuminate, check for faulty connections at coolant level indicator harness connector.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect coolant level switch located on bottom of coolant reservoir. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between coolant level switch connector terminals. See Fig 1. Connect a scan tool. Turn ignition on. Observe LOW COOLANT LEVEL parameter. If LOW COOLANT LEVEL parameter is not OK, go to next step. If LOW COOLANT LEVEL parameter is OK, go to step  7.
  4. Check for open or high resistance in Black wire between coolant level switch harness connector terminal "B" and ground (located at front passenger's door jamb). If no problems are found, go to next step. If any problems are found and corrected, go to step  10.
  5. Check for an open, short to voltage or high resistance in Light Green wire between coolant level switch harness connector "A" and IPC harness connector C2 terminal B3. See Figure and Fig 1 . If no problems are found, go to next step. If any problems are found and corrected, go to step  10.
  6. Check for poor connections at IPC connector. If no problems are found, go to step  8. If any problems are found and corrected, go to step  10.
  7. Check for poor connections at coolant level switch harness connector. If no problems are found, go to step  9. If any problems are found and corrected, go to step  10.
  8. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  10.
  9. Coolant level switch is not serviceable, replace coolant surge tank. See ENGINE COOLANT LEVEL SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  10. After repairs, recheck operation of low coolant indicator. If low coolant indicator operates properly, repair is complete. If low coolant indicator does not operate properly, return to step  2.
