Engine Cooling Diagnostic System Check

  1. Connect scan tool. See Figure. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, see SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article.
  2. Turn ignition on. Try to establish communication with Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If scan tool communicates with all modules listed, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with all modules listed, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article.
  3. Select Powertrain Control Module (PCM) DTCs function on scan tool. If scan tool displays any DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool does not display any DTCS, see appropriate article in ENGINE COOLING.
  4. If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with a "U", see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", see SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article.
