Test Ax: VF Display Inoperative
CAUTION:
This procedure will diagnose the 54-volt Vacuum Fluorescent (VF) display supply circuit.
- If lighting diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If lighting diagnostic system check was not performed, go to LIGHTING DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECKS.
- If interior lights dim properly, go to next step. If interior lights do not dim properly, go to appropriate ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
- Turn ignition on. If VF displays do not operate properly, go to next step. If VF lights operate properly, problem is intermittent, check wiring and connections to instrument panel cluster.
- If heater and A/C control VF display is inoperative, go to next step. If heater and A/C control VF display is not inoperative, go to step 11
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Instrument Panel Integration Module (IPM). Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage of 54-volt VF display supply circuit between ground and IPM connector C2 terminal B6 (Red wire). See Figure. If voltage is not approximately 54-volts, go to next step. If voltage is approximately 54-volts, go to step 8.
- Check for open, short to ground or high resistance in Red wire between IPM connector C2 terminal B6 and Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) connector C1 terminal A12. If no problems are found, go to next step. If any problems are found and corrected, go to step 12.
- Check for poor connections at IPC connector. If no problems are found, go to step 9. If any problems are found and corrected, go to step 12.
- Check for poor connections at IPM connector. If no problems are found, go to step 10. If any problems are found and corrected, go to step 12.
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step 12.
- Replace IPM. See INSTRUMENT PANEL INTEGRATION MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go step 12.
- Replace unit with faulty VF display. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER or RADIO under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After replacement, go to next step.
- After repairs, recheck operation of VF display. If VF display operates properly, repair is complete. If VF display does not operate properly, return to step 2.
