Test Aw: Turn Signal Indicators Inoperative

  1. If lighting system diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If lighting system diagnostic check was not performed, see LIGHTING SYSTEMS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECKS.
  2. Turn ignition on. Operate turn signals. If turn signals do not operate properly, go to next step. If turn signal lights and indicators operate properly, problem is intermittent, check wiring and connections.
  3. If turn signal indicators are not the only items inoperative, go to next step. If only turn signal indicators are inoperative, go to step  7.
  4. If not all turn signal lights and indicators inoperative, go to next step. If all turn signal lights and indicators are inoperative, go to step  8.
  5. If only one turn signal light is inoperative, go to next step. If more than one turn signal light is inoperative, go to step  18.
  6. If inoperative turn signal light is in rear, go to step  12. If inoperative turn signal light is in front, go to step  11.
  7. Connect scan tool. Move turn signal switch to appropriate position. If scan tool indicates TURN SIGNAL parameter is ON, go to step  22. If scan tool indicates TURN SIGNAL parameter is not ON, go to step  17.
  8. Turn ignition off. Disconnect turn/hazard flasher module. Turn ignition on. Move turn signal switch to left turn position. Connect test light between ground and turn signal/hazard module harness connector terminal "A" (Dark Green wire). See Fig 1. Turn ignition on. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  26.
  9. Connect a test light between ground and turn signal/hazard module harness connector terminal "M" (Orange wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  24.
  10. Connect a test light between turn signal/hazard module harness connector terminals "M" (Orange wire) and "E" (Black/White wire). If test light illuminates, go to step  20. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  25.
  11. Turn ignition off. Disconnect inoperative front turn signal light. Turn ignition on. Connect a test light between ground and turn signal/hazard module harness connector terminal "D" (Dark Blue wire) for right side or terminal "J" (Light Blue wire) for left side. See Fig 1. Move turn signal switch to operate inoperative turn signal light. If test light flashes on and off, go to step  13. If test light does not flash on and off, go to step  16.
  12. Turn ignition off. Disconnect inoperative rear turn signal light. Turn ignition on. Connect a test light between ground and turn signal/hazard module harness connector terminal "D" (Dark Blue wire) for right side or terminal "J" (Light Blue wire) for left side. Move turn signal switch to operate inoperative turn signal light. If test light flashes on and off, go to step  14. If test light does not flash on and off, go to step  16.
  13. Connect a test light between ground and turn signal/hazard module harness connector terminal "D" (Dark Blue wire) for right side or terminal "J" (Light Blue wire) for left side rear turn signal light. See Fig 1. If test light flashes on and off, go to step  23. If test light does not flash on and off, go to step  27.
  14. Connect a test light between ground and turn signal/hazard module harness connector terminal "D" (Dark Blue wire) for right side or terminal "J" (Light Blue wire) for left side front turn signal light. If test light flashes on and off, go to next step. If test light does not flash on and off, go to step  27.
  15. Connect a test light between faulty turn signal light harness connector terminal "C" (Black wire) and terminal "D" (Yellow/Black wire) for left rear or (Dark Green/White wire) for right rear. If test light flashes on and off, go to step  23. If test light does not flash on and off, go to step  19.
  16. Check for an open or short to ground in faulty turn signal harness connector terminal "A" (Dark Blue wire) for right front or (Light Blue wire) for left front or terminal "B" (Dark Green wire) for right rear or (Yellow wire) for left rear. If no problem was found, go to step  20. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  32.
  17. Check for an open or high resistance in turn/hazard flasher module (behind left front knee bolster) harness connector terminal "D" (Dark Blue wire) for right turn signal indicator or terminal "J" (Light Blue wire) for left turn signal indicator and instrument cluster harness connector C1 terminal B11 (Dark Blue wire) for right turn signal indicator or terminal B12 (Light Blue wire) for left turn signal indicator. See Figure and Fig 1. If no problem was found, go to step  22. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  32.
  18. Check for an open or high resistance in appropriate turn signal circuit. If no problem was found, go to step  21. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  32.
  19. Check for an open or high resistance in faulty turn signal light harness connector terminal "D" (Yellow/Black wire) for left rear or (Dark Green/White wire) for right rear. If no problem was found, go to next step. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  32.
  20. Check for faulty connections at turn signal/hazard flasher module. If no problem was found, go to step  28. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  32.
  21. Check for faulty connections at turn signal switch. If no problem was found, go to step  29. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  32.
  22. Check for faulty connections at Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). If no problem was found, go to step  30. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  32.
  23. Check for faulty connections at faulty turn signal light. If no problem was found, go to step  31. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step  32.
  24. Repair an open or short to ground in Orange wire between turn/hazard flasher module harness connector terminal "M" (Orange wire) and TSIG/HAZ fuse (15-amp) in rear fuse block under left rear seat. See Figure. After repairs are completed, go to step  32.
