Test Ac: Engine Oil Level Indicator Always On
- If instrument cluster diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If instrument cluster diagnostic system check was not performed, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECKS.
- Connect scan tool to DLC. See Figure. Turn ignition on. Observe ENGINE OIL LEVEL SWITCH parameter in PCM ENGINE 3 data list. If ENGINE OIL LEVEL SWITCH parameter display is OK, go to next step. If ENGINE OIL LEVEL SWITCH parameter does not display OK, go to step 4
- If low engine oil indicator is illuminated, go to step 11. If low engine oil indicator is not illuminated, check for faulty connections in Brown wire between oil level switch terminal "A" and PCM 80-pin harness connector C2 (Clear) terminal No. 23. See Figure.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect oil level switch harness connector. Connect a fused jumper wire (3-amp) between ground and oil level switch terminal "A"(Brown wire). Turn ignition on. With scan tool, observe ENGINE OIL LEVEL SWITCH parameter. If ENGINE OIL LEVEL SWITCH parameter does not display OK, go to next step. If ENGINE OIL LEVEL SWITCH parameter displays OK, go to step 6.
- Check for an open or high resistance in Brown wire between engine oil level switch harness connector terminal "A" and PCM 80-pin harness connector C2 (Clear) terminal No. 23. See Figure. If no problem was found, go to step 8. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step 12.
- Check for an open or high resistance in Black wire between engine oil level switch terminal "B" and ground (located near right rear wheel well). If no problem was found, go to next step. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step 12.
- Check for faulty connections in Brown wire at oil level switch terminal "A". If no problem was found, go to step 9. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step 12.
- Check for faulty connections in Brown wire at PCM 80-pin harness connector C2 (Clear) terminal No. 23. See Figure. If no problem was found, go to step 10. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step 12.
- Replace engine oil level switch. See OIL LEVEL SENDING UNIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After replacement go to step 12.
- Replace PCM and reprogram. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article. After replacement go to step 12.
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
- After repairs, recheck operation of indicator. If indicator operates properly, repair is complete. If indicator does not operate properly, return to step 2.
